Line out converter help

So installed a Skar amp yesterday with a scosche line out converter, I tapped into the rear right/left output to speaker for the line out converter and now the amp is running real hot. Should I have used the signal wires or is it correct using the outputs? I’m also keeping the factory amp so the wires tapped are the outputs from after the factory amp

 

I doubt it's LOC related. The input voltage on the LOC can be as high as 50w per channel according to Crutchfield. No way the stock amp is putting out that much juice.

Which Skar amp are you running?

What guage wire did you use to power and ground your amp? Where is the gain set on the amp, and are you using the scosche "gain" remote too?

 

And what ohm are the Skars 10s? And how do you have them wired?

That box is wired for a 1ohm final load to the amp. Sumbich gonna run hot.

What u recommend? I got the 1500 Skar recommends the 1200, guess I could do that?

 

I'd just rewire the subs to 2ohm load and run what you have.

 

How do u do that? The box itself has 1 set of connections so just ran speaker wire to those

 

I just reread the post and your amp and box specs. Your amp is capable of 1, 2 and 4ohm loads. The box is loaded with 2 dvc 4 ohm speakers so it can only be wired to 1 ohm or 4 ohm. Sounds like it's running as designed.

If you wire the box to 4 ohm, it's not going to be anywhere near as loud, but your amp will be happier.

 

How do you require to 4ohm

 

Think I might have gotten a dud amp also, soon as we turned it on it smoked lol

 

There ya go. I was gonna say most amps when pushed hard are hot to the touch. 1ohm loads push a lot of current through an amp. They run hot with those loads and it’s ok. Might not last as long always running high temps but that amp is rated to be 1ohm stable at 1500w. But smoke isn’t a good sign

 

If the magic smoke escaped when it powered on, I'd start an RMA assuming you bought it new from a reputable dealer.

Pulled the amp and it smells burnt. Like I said originally when it first powered up we heard a pop, then smoke then it came on and worked fine for a while. Then it got hot, more smoke and shut off.

Trying to decide if I should return and get another Skar or go with something different.

 

They are having a hell of a sale on that amp right now at $169, but I do feel you tend to get what you pay for. @Jack_A_Lope built a really nice system around Down4Sound amps. I'd never heard of them but in my research, I found the Sundown SIA1750 which seems like a lot of bang for the buck @ $300ish. Same with the D'Amore E1500.1 if you have the room for a long skinny amp.

I like Rockford Fosgate and D'Amore used to be one of their engineers.

 

Hi I just saw this thread and have the same issue. I have a tundra platinum with jbl system with a kicker keyloc loc and a Rockford t1500 wired at 1 ohm with 2 Rockford shallow t1 10s. 10gauge ofc wire to subs and 0 gauge ofc to amp. I’m grounded to the frame with big 4 wire upgrade. Mine runs great then gets super hot after a while and starts making a weird loud sound. Any ideas what could be causing this? Thank you

No, that was my guess as to why it's so hot.

 

Oh gotcha lol n I've had this amp hooked up to 2 Rockford t2 15s no sweat but had an aftermarket deck. I've also tried a few other amps n same thing happens, it's ok for a while then gets really hot n makes a weird loud sound even with volume all the way down

 

Did you wire your LOC behind the headunit using the wires for the speakers? currently installed subs and amp in my 2nd gen as well

 

I actually swapped out the head unit with a Sony 9500es and no issues so far
