I don't have the common TC or Camburg uppers like most do, but I love my Fabtechs and plan on swapping the uniballs out for new. I was looking at doing this while the UCAs are on the truck and noticed that ICON has a kit designed to specifically do this.

Does anyone know of any other kits that will do the job (possibly more cost-effective)? My uppers have a 1" uniball.

One drawback to these is there's a shortage of replacement kits. I was only able to locate one....

That is expensive, but cheaper than the other ones I've seen. If you're creative I would just buy a ball joint press for $50 off Amazon and make that work. I'm sure a ball joint press and a socket would get the job done and save $100.

What do you mean a shortage of replacement kits? Are you referring to the uniball? There's doubtful to be anything special about your uniballs, just match the dimensions up and buy them from somewhere else. Most likely they're made from FK anyways.

Experience has taught me that when I take the improvised route by not using job-specific tools, I usually end up spending more money than if I'd used the right tool to begin with :(

And how dare you accuse me of having plain jane uniballs.......but yes they are FK made:

All I'm saying is that $160 Icon kit looks exactly like the cups from a ball joint press, except you only get two instead of the entire set :D

And holy shit, that kit is the most overpriced thing I've ever seen. FTS98015 from 4wp is $190 for a uniball, nut, and c-clip  what an absolute rip off. For $120 from Poly Performance you can get BOTH uniballs and snap rings: https://www.polyperformance.com/poly-performance-uniball-replacement-kits

Measure the uniball size (might be a bitch with them on the truck). 1" means it has a 1" bore, and there's two standard sizes of uniball width. If you can measure the diameter of the cup, and the width of the bearing, you should be able to cross reference on FKs website what the part number is or call up one of a dozen places and tell them the size you have. Do that and you'll save about $300 and receive the exact same parts as that Fabtech kit. Hell, as a package deal from Poly you can get both uniballs AND the AGM uniball press for an extra $155, so $270 and you'll have everything you need most likely.

I already have one of the Fabtech kits :frusty:

Definitely going a different route to get the other one I need... thanks to you. As for the AGM press, they're OOS on 1" tools and it's a 6-8 week wait (their machine is down). I asked Race Ready about the right uniball I need so waiting on their response.

I looked at the ones in the link you posted and they don't come with snap rings but I guess I could re-use the old ones. I like that they even have the option for TC's press tool which is listed on their site for $99, but Poly will throw it in for half that... interesting.

Description says "kit features 2 uniballs and 2 matching heavy duty spirolock snap rings". Regardless, I would have no issue reusing the snap rings. Unless they're all mangled, they'll snap just fine :D uniball shouldn't be taking any significant axial loads anyways.

Yea kartek is very well known, I've ordered from them a few times. They have a good datasheet at the bottom too with dimensions.

Nice! I was actually there in their OH store a couple weeks ago. Should've picked one up there. I pulled the trigger on the one on Kartek's site already. Summit would've saved me over $10!

As for the removal tool, I'm gonna get the TC setup.

    Do these look the same?

The one on the left is a ball I got from Kartek. The one on the right is from Fabtech.

All of the FK uniballs I’ve purchased look like the Fabtech(right), photo on Kartek site is also the same. Have no idea, but would be calling them and asking. I’ve had nothing but really good experiences purchasing from them.

Emailed back and forth with Chris. Sent him pics and he checked all the uniballs that correlate to the numbers stamped on the Fabtech. He said the following, "There's actually four of those bearings and all four are exactly the same dimensional wise. WSSX16T / HIN16TA / AIN16T and Aurora's AIB16T3 (16TKH300)."

He thinks it's fine and to let him know if it isn't when I try to install.

Oh, I see the part number. Dimensionally yes, made of different materials, alloy steel vs. stainless. Did you order the W series from them?, it costs more, and what I would use…
