So I have a co-worker who whenever the TP roll gets down to like 1/4 roll left, he takes it off, puts a new one on the dispenser, and then sets the 1/4 roll ON TOP OF the new roll.

So now you can't use the dispenser, you have to take the old (Still perfectly good) roll off and use it by hand.

    20230717_091735.jpg
I know, in the grand scheme of things it's not a big deal to grab the roll and dispense it by hand, but why not just replace the roll when it's gone?! There's always a new roll or two sitting on the top of the tank so you're not gonna' get caught without one.

It's just one of those "WTF, Why?!" things that makes me wonder what the reasoning behind it is.
Can anyone tell me anything resembling a good reason for this?

The only thing I can think of is that he was beaten with a partial roll of TP as a child and has a deep seated phobia now.

Am I an inconsiderate asshole, or is this kinda strange?

(Side note - Sometimes I take the full one off and put the partial one back on there just to mess with them)

I appreciate the go-getterness of this gesture, but yes. This is weird and adds a step where there doesn't need to be one.

No, makes no sense. And they didn't even put the new one on right either.
The only "reason" people ever replace the TP prematurely at work is because they're taking the quarter roll home.

I'd be happy if the other shifts in my station would do this! They will just leave the dispenser empty or very nearly empty and not get a replacement at least staged. :annoyed:

I like to get that new roll on when I notice the old roll is dwindling. Otherwise, I'm likely to reach for the TP only to find out there's just three or four squares left. I'd rather be ahead of the game than get caught with my pants down. (Pun intended)

Okay I get that... Foresight, preparedness and all that.

But that's the thing, the extra rolls are on the tank right behind the user, literally the same distance away as the dispenser.

Well my guess is I'd probably get shot. You know, since I'd have to have come to AZ and broken in to take a crap in your house and all. That'd be weird on so many more levels than just fixing your strange potty habits.

I keep a bucket of pine cones and flat stones next to the can as a just in case - leftovers from the great TP Shortage. My wife doesn’t think it’s very funny…

I could see how muggles see it that way. A great deal of what we do is a backlash against the fragility of the current system, which is often a result of its obsession with efficiency over resilience.

We have some core beliefs that we live by, which I think apply to your TP situation.

"Two is one, and one is none".....Without a backup, you don't have anything.

"You have, what you have".....Never count on getting anything more, than what you actually have at the moment.
