What is this breather? It's just dangling in my engine bay.

Changing out my spark plugs, and this is just sitting there not clamped to anything on the driver side.

Anyone know what it is? Is it supposed to be clamped or bracketed to something?

Maybe an aftermarket trans breather or front diff breather installed by previous owner? Where does it lead to?

Well now for the good news! Your tranny and front differential are probably not suffering from breathing complications.

Yeah, and they've been recently serviced to boot. No need to worry about the diff boxes. The bad news is my transmission fluid has never been changed in the 175k miles of this truck's life, and the level check plug is rusted badly. Looks like I either leave it be or take it to the dealer.

Maybe hit it with PB blaster several times a week for a couple of weeks when it's still hot. Then try to crack it open when it's still hot also. One could also put a wire brush in a drill and give it a good gentle massage before that if it is really ugly. Make sure you are able to open the fill plug before draining any fluid.

If in fact it has never been changed I would not change it now as there would be a good chance of tranny issues if not ever had them before. Just my .02..

That makes sense. The first owner did a lot of towing and such. Second owner thought this was a stock truck, but I found remnants of auxiliary switches and whatnot. Even the front fender liner was trimmed as if the first owner ran 34s or 35s.
