A couple months ago I got a check engine light so I scanned it and it was the classic secondary air injection pump code which from reading on here I knew one day would come. I believe it was valve stuck closed. So I thought good I don't need that emissions crap (no testing here) and just kept on driving. What I am wondering is if I am living on borrowed time? because I have read that some peoples trucks got put into limp mode when their pumps/valves stopped working.

Has anyone successfully driven their truck long term without fixing them or installing the bypass kit? Would be nice to get the check engine light turned off but if its going to work fine whatever keep on trucking.

Have had a bypass kit on an 05 Sequoia for a couple years. It’s the cheap one a guy sells on a Tacoma forum. We put it on when things were working and no issues to date. Not sure how having codes changes things for you. Early on we had the SAI go out and immediately place the rig in limp mode, it was fixed that time, the bypass put on much later as a preventative measure.

Have you checked if yours qualifies for a recall? I had mine repaired by toyota and even had a rental taken care of.

    2010 4.6L v8 2wd
    Went into limp mode.

You can get a bypass kit from Hewitt-Tech that will completely bypass the sai. Comes with a module, harness, plates. There are thread on the kits on this forum. I like the complete bypass-no need to touch the sai except unplugging wires . Unless the valve is stuck open, you can just leave it the way it is and install the kit.

Thanks! Interesting mine is a 2009 only have just over 100k kms. I think that would put me over the 10 year mark? I will see what the local dealer says.

Well, if you're liberal on wording interpretation, it could mean warranty is extended **AFTER** repair is done, but before it doesn't matter, since it's a recall and should be initially performed regardless of miles..

After all, if it were air bags or some other safety problem, they wouldn't tell you "we can't repair them, since you're over miles". A recall typically doesn't have mile limit or expiration.
