I can't imagine any cover being watertight but I will say the lomax unit included some foam pieces to block up some holes.

Still wouldnt carry a bed loaded up with sodium in a rain storm but its not bad.

I'll give you 20 bucks for it....just kidding.

Like @Maharisc said they may have changed things in the last 3 years. Maybe they even changed the design and improved the adhesive or removed that fabric that keeps falling off of it.

I have the X4S and I've been quite pleased with it. The current construction is different from those videos. One gripe is that the clips that hold it down when its rolled up could be better but they serve their purpose.

That looks pretty good and even more flush than my mx4. Is the vinyl soft and gives or is it more hard?

Thanks for the tip, worked perfectly. I didn’t bother drilling the hole bigger, just gave a few taps to lower barb in the factory predrilled hole.

My previous truck had the mx4 and this one is more flush because of the way it mounts inside the bed rail. The marine-grade vinyl is soft so you can roll it up. The aluminum slats are strong enough that I can stand on it - wouldn't jump up and down - but i can stand on it.

All new design. There is no fabric anymore. Its all black rubber and aluminum on the underside.

Right on. I guess I don't know how to phrase my question lol. Like, when you are driving do you see the vinyl move from the wind? When you touch it does it give a little? I want it to look like a hard cover and not a soft cover, and from the website it looks so, but wanted actual user experience opinion.

Ahh, gotcha. It does indeed look and act like a hard cover. It does not move or or shake at speed nor does it make noise. Bonus - Its just about waterproof.

Cool, thanks for the info. Yeah it looks like it would be more water resistant than the MX4.

See my post at #1316 in this thread that states : The Truxedo Sentry CT I had, drove 150miles in -12F weather to an airport, it worked great, drove back and it still worked great. This was around Christmas time in Montana.

Ha I don't have to worry about the cold in Dallas except for maybe a few days a year. It's the heat I worry about.

Couple more questions. Do you have any concerns of something hitting the top and tearing the vinyl? Like, is the vinyl easy enough to tear?

Do you have a bed extender? If not, can you measure how far in the lock mechanism is (metal that sticks out into the bed). I'm wondering if the way that the clip locking mech sticks out if it would block a bed extender.

I didn’t spend the money to just swap out stuff.
Given how much you spent, I would hope not.

Nope - The vinyl is fairly thick/seems pretty tough. No bed extender. I'll edit this post with some pics a bit later.

Has anyone here tried the Diamondback Switchback? Tri-Fold version from Diamondback, seems interesting but not sure it's worth $700 more than a MX4

Question; if I go with a soft cover, would a tri-fold or a roll-up be a better option to avoid sagging when snowed on during the winter time?

I have a Gator soft tri fold cover currently that came on the truck. It has support bows that are raised up slightly to help shed water off the sides. A large amount of snow or ice might be a problem but for moderate snow I think it would hold up okay. With that said I plan on replacing it soon with either a diamondback or retrax for more security.

Anyone else have this issue with the x4s where the cover flap goes past the rails on the cab side? And yes, it is lined up correctly with the tailgate and end rails.

Mine overhangs similar to that. Up front, I'd rather have that little extra.

I can't say that I've ever noticed them, maybe more pronounced with a layer of dust? It looks like it's where the roll up section mounts to the header panel. Next time I'm by the truck, I'll look for them.
