Here's the 2nd pic from that reply, mid-process. It speaks volumes. And that's actually the side I now need to go back and re-do, it looks less shiny than the rest. First panel is always a little weird, you're learning how hard to go at the paint. The little shiny spot above the passenger door handle was my test spot, notice the surrounding paint is basically a stick of chalk...

There's more than one way to skin a cat. And what makes the most difference is time, patience, and a little fundamental understanding of what you're doing. You can absolutely achieve the same results FGV and I did just getting some orange hex-logic hand pads and Meguair's Ultimate Polish with some circular patterns on the paint. That's what I had to use in all my tight spots, their smaller hex-logic orange cutting pads. Just super important you wash the truck first and remove any loose dirt and NEVER let your pads come in contact with the ground, lest you unknowingly pick up a piece of sand and swirl up your paint

I personally feel like the combo of a good, clearcoat-safe polish combined with a cutting pad has done me extremely well with single stage paints. Something about the more-aggressive foam with less aggressive polish compound (vs. more aggressive buffing compound) saves a shitload of work.

Dude, the kids are killing me with that right now. I run a QNAP in the house and have a private server setup on it (VM) so they have a safe place to build where nobody else can mangle stuff. My son specifically has been bugging the hell out of me, "DAD COME PLAY ON THE FAMILY SERVER!" but he's always creating weird ass shit and we spend less time playing than him showing me all the crazy stuff he made.

 

It definitely was the 'rona there for a while in my circle. I think this may be RSV or similar.

I'm sure! I've never done straight-up buttons (raw), I'm curious what it's like. My only frame of reference is from Young Guns, and I'm sure that's heavily skewed for TV because I've never seen anyone trip like that.

But I've had my fair share of peyote derivative (Mescaline) and it's way better, happier, cleaner, more fun than paper or fungi. Also less issues with misjudging strength like you can run into with the other two.

The only reason I bought a PC is to run a server for us. Then I got the dream machine and a better router. Then more ram. Now I need a better cpu. It never ends.

 

Don't gotta tell me, I get it. I'm much happier offloading the server operations to the VM on my NAS, less local strain and I don't need to leave the PC on all the time. NAS stays up anyway for security functions around the house, may as well capitalize on that.

This is what I'm currently running things on personally - the kids' rigs are similarly spec'd. All NVMe disks. I wasn't going overboard with them so slapped some GTX 970s for GPU on theirs and RX 590 on mine. I refuse to buy into the new cards and price gouging that's been happening the last couple of years when those cards are doing us just fine. Minecraft it more CPU than GPU anyway.

This is the album he should have won the Grammy for. Way better than the follow up Sailors guide. Although I like all his albums for what they are. He’s a true artist, just slapping down what he feels at the time.

 

Fully agree, and on that last bit, you're damn right. I'm wondering if the first track and its perforation of religious slights may've had something to do with mainstream awards. But for me, it's also one of the best songs on the album. Heaven forbid someone should challenge organized religion with common sense and spirituality but let's be real. Its Wikipedia page only shows it as reaching 500k albums sold which is crazy to me also .

 

That first song alone has been streamed over 50million times on Spotify alone. And I only listened to it 12k times, so it wasn’t all me.

 

Uhh, there's a way to run a server and not leave my PC on? I need details. And I still have a ryzen 5 2600. I'm looking at last gen ryzen 9s for about two fiddy.

Wow that’s damn good! I haven’t buffed a single stage paint before, or at least I don’t think so. At work everything I buff is relatively new. Looking forward to throwing my buffer at the tundra, probably start off slow and learn how to work the paint like you did. Gonna read through your long version of your post tomorrow and learn from that hopefully

Oooo that pad looks pretty good. Personally most of my experience is with Rupes products, because of work. Been meaning to try Meguirs more, always loved the finish their products achieve.

"Kids these days!" (j/k) Seriously, everything inexpensive or older than 1960-1970 used to be single stage when I was younger, and I've always appreciated pre-'72 vehicles, so ...

All the Chemical guys 'hex logic' pads look like that. I don't like Chemical Guys circular hook-and-look pads, I prefer Griot's hook-and-loop. I used Griot's orange cutting pad (p/n 10615) with Meguair's Ultimate Polish. Those hand sized CG hex logic pads I haven't used, but i have used their smaller version, which come in a variety 3-pack on scAmazon, and they're freaking awesome for hand-powered purposes, a-pillars/c-pillars, between bed and cab and lower edge of rear window, between 3rd brake light and rear window, all the places wheels don't easily go. I'd be worried about over-cutting with that CG hex logic circular pad, knowing how well it works by hand. Maybe that option could be right for a newbie worried about using too much pressure and wants to go at it lighter? Learning the right pressure is the only big curve I can really think of w/polishing.

FWIW, I'm not a Meguair's fiend or anything, their Ultimate Polish happens to be great with a medium-aggressive cutting pad. However, I don't like their compound, I prefer No. 7 brand over anyone else. But I also don't have access to pro-line stuff, nor do I want to pay the $$$ associated with it, so I'm only going to recommend what you can find at most big-box stores. I'm pretty all-over-the-place with my products. Mothers for mag/wheel polish, Turtle ceramic for my wash, CarGuys hybrid spray-on for my wax, or if using paste, I'm working towards the end of a Turtle's p/n T-222R and playing with their p/n 53737 as a possible new-fangled substitute. (Always gotta wax after you polish, but I suspect you know that)
