    Hello Everyone,

Just looking for some thoughts/ advice.. I purchased my 2020 Tundra 4 months ago & have had a few electrical issues ever since. To Date they have had to swap out a backup sensor, fuel level float sensor & then that same code came up and I was told the issue was that I have a Canadian manufactured tundra but someone put in a US cluster unit (dash). They have since replaced the cluster with a correct Canadian one, however I noticed that the milage seemed off.

Understanding that the dash was now in Kilometers, it read 26,650. However prior to the repair, my mileage was roughly 42,792. A quick calculation and you can see that the conversion of those numbers do not add up. When I brought this to the dealerships attention, they assured me another cluster would have to be ordered and reprogrammed.

I just received a call from the dealership that upon investigation the milage shown (26,620 kilometers) was accurate as this is the total milage shown on the ECM. This did not make sense to me as that would mean the truck only had roughly 16,000 miles on it which is substantially different from the 40,000 I was expecting.

this was a cause for concern as this was different from every report (VIN lookup) performed on this truck since it was brought to this country and the dealership & myself purchased it.

Just looking for some advise as I am new to owning this vehicle and you all have been very helpful in the past. Curious if what they are saying is true or what would be happening. thanks everyone!

*and im sure this wasn't posted to the correct forum, still learning. Sorry in advance*

    best,

    D.Fleck

The only issue, is everything online via a carfax report indicates a different milage which I am not a fan of. I do not care if the Carfax report show more, I just want the accurate number I guess.

Where did the dealer look for the mileage in the ECM? Can they show you physically on the screen of the laptop in the Techstream Program where it says this?

Techstream will show the mileage on the left ribbon of the program but its reading it from the cluster I think. I have heard the ECM does store the mileage also but as of now I do not know anyone who has the ability to find or read it.

As you have figured out, the main mileage value is stored in the cluster. Any change of the cluster will make the mileage on the dash be off with out reprogramming it first.

I would give it back and run away.

    Electrical issues are the worst.

Even under warranty it's not worth all the headaches.

This dealer does sound awesome to even work with you on it though, especially on a cross border vehicle.

Maybe give it back and buy something else from them.

    Is the ECM original?

As far as electrical issues go, that's the one thing I'll say is quirky about these trucks. Very finicky. Almost gremlin-like. I've had the ECM and ABS module replaced because of an electrical issue. Extended warranty came thru like a champ on that. More than paid for itself.

From my understanding the mileage was taken from the ECM. I had two different mechanics at separate wrong "health checks" which I was told pulls the mileage directly from the computer. both had the same value, to which I had print outs for both.

so I took it to a different Toyota dealership as a second opinion and they told me that it is common practice to swap a dash and how they themselves buy Canadian trucks and put US dashes in them all the time. This was alarming, as I now had differing opinions from two Toyota dealerships since the first one told me the issue was specifically because the US dash was installed into a Canadian truck.

that is the one mystery, both mechanics were baffled. I asked to run the serial number and they mentioned it would be hard to tell etc. they mentioned even adding a new ECM would have the mileage from the other areas where the original mileage was store within the onboard computer or something. They were both mind blown and stumped. They also were able to pull the computer logs of every code ever triggered by the truck and it wasnt a pretty sight to say the least

Did they download the Vehicle Control History? This is a list of "Events" that happened in the truck. Each event generally has a mileage associated with it.

possibly? I dont have the print out handy, but it was a large grid that showed the codes and equivalent information at the given time, so it sounds like it could be that yea.
