Hood Bulge

Has anyone purchased or replaced their hood bulge with an after market piece. Apparently there is about 242 national back orders with Toyota nation wide. Been waiting for like 5 months and still waiting. I have called and checked with numerous Toyotas and all are saying the same thing. I wander where does the body shops get theirs to repair customer trucks. I just want the paint to match and my front grill surround came from Toyota colored matched and the hood bulge would too when it comes, if it comes.

 

I ordered a knock off hood bulge off Amazon and it was a huge disappointment. Color wasn't good, it didn't fit right, and it didn't have the little rubber strip like the factory one. The company ended up refunding me most of my money but I wouldn't do that again.

For short term, you can paint the chrome bulge for probably around $50 to get you by until your order with Toyota arrives. This is temp and will not look perfect and will probably get some rock chips. But it beats chrome.

Edit: with your MGM you can get the plastidil/hyperdip that is almost color match and that will be easier to apply as a temp solution

 

I'm glad I didn't order any. All of after market parts don't come painted. The plastidip seems like an excellent idea. You wouldn't happen to know the color that would match would ya. The plastidip peels to don't it, so I can take it off if I ever put it back to original and sell it off. ?

 

@Tundra-XP yes it peels up. You don't scuff the chrome but instead just clean it very well, let it dry, and then hit it with multiple coats. I'd recommend buying at least 2 cans. Also, if you search this forum for the Anthracite Grey, you will be able to see photos of it on the tundra.

I got a hood bulge paint matched from Treasure Coast Toyota in Stuart, FL. They had the grill, surround, and hood bulge in stock and shipped to me in 2 days (I'm in SoCal). Maybe try shooting them a message or call tomorro when they're open.
