HELP ME DECIDE

I am the proud owner of a 2006 Tacoma club cab 4x4. Brought it brand new and I currently two hundred and eight thousand miles on it and she is still going strong. I am planning on driving across country and back through 25 states. I am considering buying a new truck for this venture and I am torn between getting a new Tacoma or a Tundra club cab 4x4. I like the gas mileage I get with the Tacoma plus the ease of drive handling. However, the tundra provides more room which perks my interest as well. Which ever I decide it will be a daily driver and since I do not have to work five days a week gasoline cost should not be a problem. Please advise

Just food for thought since you are considering a cross country trip.... I average about 13MPG in my 2015 5.7 Crewmax 4x4. Granted I do have 35" tires on it.

In my opinion if the Taco is still in great condition mechanically, use it for the cross country excursion and then get a new set of wheels when you get back. Then keep the Taco as an off road rig if you're into that sort of thing.

 

With the price of the 2016 tacos being so high, I would go Tundra.

Tacoma, Tundra can't really go wrong with either.
Mostly comes to wants vs needs and what things might be deal breakers. For me my Tacoma's were great, but I found myself needing more truck. The Tundra has since served me very well. It's a big, comfortable, capable truck. It does however drink gas compared to a Tacoma. If losing a few MPGs isn't much concern and you don't drive downtown in large cities where the size of the Tundra would hassle you too much then you'd likely find yourself very happy in a Tundra

 

Make sure the Taco has new hoses, belt etc and take it! You are used to it and won't be worried parking it an such....lots of stress for some driving a brand new truck (like to keep them new)...take the taco, enjoy the trip, and get new when you get home if needed...

 

What kind of mileage do you get highway, city, and combined,etc... I am considering getting truck like yours. I've always had the 4.6 v8, I lifted front end to level it and put wheel spacers like you did and my miles dropped at least 2-3 miles per gallon, wasn't sure if because smaller engine is working harder due to front lift and wheels being little further out.
