Had my truck at the stealership for an oil change and they told me i had a broken leaf spring, which I do. They quoted me 2900.00 to replace it. Naturally I thought they were full of it but and declined the service, Can you not just replace the broken spring without replacing the whole assembly? I can't do it myself but I'm not paying 3 grand for a leaf spring package. Anyone have a realistic idea of what I should be paying? I had a leaf spring fail on my 2013 Silverado ( never hauled or towed anything) and I remember it was about 4-600. Thanks in advance for any info. 2007 CM 4x4

Replacement springs from the likes of General Spring online run $200 for the entire leaf pack last I checked, plus shipping. I’d recommend replacing in pairs but that’s me. Or spring… for an aftermarket set like Dobinsons or Icons for $700 for the pair. Or splurge on some Alcans or such for $1200.

It’s fairly simple to swap the leaf pack; just plan on replacing the spring bushings with some aftermarket urethane units instead of pressing out the old ones or trying to press in OE bushings. Those will run you another $100 for the full set. Make sure you get some new u bolts as well.

Alternatively, call a local spring shop and ask what they would charge to fix the broken spring. My local spring shop costs 400-500 to swap in some add a leaves for both spring packs, including the new leaves and and labor.

Might as well buy Deavers or even custom packs from Alcan.

Depending on your needs, salvage yard, aftermarket, etc. Much depends on how long you intend to keep the truck and what you want to do with it. Definitely stay away from the dealership and their ridiculous shenanigans.

A life is worth much more than $3k, let's say it's worth $3,000,000. Does that make a rear leaf pack worth $3,000,000? Nope. But if you can't, or won't work on your own vehicle, then your at someone else's mercy. Shop around, find a buddy that can help with the work or learn how to do the swap yourself. The parts and tools to do it would be less than $1k. You'd save money, fix your truck, learn a new skill, get some new tools and have some pride of accomplishing the task.

199.00 at general spring. I don't mind anyone making a reasonable profit from their labor but for 2900 I expect to be at least taken out for dinner before I get bent over. Unfortunately age and medical issues have caught up with me, so I cannot do this out in my driveway like I would have years ago.

Well, Don, that's when you call a buddy over and entice him with a 12 pack of suds.
