I just bought a barely "used" SR5-SX a couple weeks ago and took it on a trip last weekend. It only has 3500 miles on it now. During the trip, I noticed a coolant smell. No apparent leaks. I took it to the dealer Friday and they said is was probably coolant off-gassing. My problem, the smell is coming from directly under the drivers seat... not under the floor mat either.. literally under the seat. Normally, heater cores are on the passenger side behind the glove box. The smell also doesn't blow through the vents. Doesn't make sense.

    Here's my questions:

    1. Anyone have this issue?
    2. Can anyone confirm the heater core is under the passenger seat or is it located somewhere else I'm not aware of?
    3. Anything else?

    Please help!

Could you be smelling an electrical overheating issue of some kind? Just a guess since I don't ever huff pink yota juice. I suppose the original buyer could have known that the repo man was on the way and decided to be asinine.

I'm thinking its possibly something related to the seat. I checked last night and the other side has a faint smell. The only other thought is that off gassing is coming from under the truck and rising through holes in the floor pan. No smell coming from under the truck though. Weird.

Plastics can release some gasses, maybe that is the case.

My 23 SR5 has a coolant smell every now and again. I’ve had it since May and 1100 miles on it. Can’t find anything under the hood or inside, but still smell it.

Maybe throw a couple of dryer sheets under it for a few days and see what happens.
