Old news... but I looked anyway to see if there was maybe some additional info. Not. But from the quote below I have determined that the author of that story is an idiot. Since when is it "good news" to have a major function for many of us, the ability to carry luggage securely, unavailable until... when? And having to spend an hour or so working to remove it? This reminds me of those stupid Medicare scamvantage plan commercials where the pitchwoman excitedly says "Here's the good news. You can call, even if you called last year". As if they would ever deny you the chance to let them give you another sales pitch. LOL.

"The good news is that owners with affected covers can simply remove them until a fix is determined for the cover."

    LED headlamps/fogs; interior footlamps.
It is just plain Embarrassing testing did not reveal this problem before launch.

But I suppose that character feature may not exist at Toyota anymore...

This whole thing is a bit puzzling, indeed. These covers look to be the same that they have used for many years on Tundras and Tacomas, so what is different and defective now? Inquiring minds want to know.

Toyota does not manufacture tonneau covers. These are made by some other company and licensed to Toyota as an OEM product. Toyota did not have anything to do with the R&D.

Yes, they have to do some homework when picking a vendor, but not to where they can be blamed for everything going wrong with the product.

I respectfully disagree. If you are selling something as OEM, you need to test it extensively and stand behind it when it does not function properly, doesn't matter who manufactured it. Many of us paid a huge markup to Toyota to buy it through them and a hefty amount on top of that for the dealer to install it so it would be covered under the Toyota warranty. Now, several months have gone by with no resolution or even an update from Toyota. This is not an electrical or a software issue that should take this long to figure out. It is just a few pieces of plastic & metal that should be relatively easy and inexpensive to fix. This appears not to be a priority for either companies involved. I am a huge Toyota fan but this experience has me questioning if I will ever purchase a Toyota again.

I just wish they would take it off the app if you aren’t one of the affected ones….

i called the other day to schedule for my 5k maintenance. She said looks like you have a recall we can take care of. I said I didn’t get a tonneau cover with my vehicle but y’all can take that notice off for me. It is annoying

Yeh local dealer that does my maintenance wanted to check my cover to be sure it was not the factory cover, its a check off for them once the vin hits the system. No big deal, took 30 seconds.

Very odd this didn’t happen for you. I got the letter in the mail, scanned the QR code, filled out the online survey, and probably with 48 hours the recall notification was removed from my app.

I currently show no recall or alerts now. Strange.

lol I probably still could when I come in. It’s not like they’ll remember what was said or it’s probably a different person entirely.
