So, I was under there, thinking, "Man, that's a huge gas tank being exposed to potential damage/theft...sure would be nice if Talons made a 2.5 gas tank plate, maybe that's why there are these holes in back of the cat protector..."

It is a bit down the line. I need to scan a truck that had the TRD pro brackets so I can have that hardware for mounting.

I just made our first batch of the bronco skids, and every one got scrapped... so I am working on the reliability of getting those right so I can apply that to the Tundra design.

update: I did some more looking at it this weekend. I have some scans of a sequoia TRD pro that I can start to model
Off of. I am not 100% convinced that it will be the same as the Tundra:

It seems the mounting varies a ton by cab configuration and bed length. So I may need to get a few various scans to figure out what is what. Or just walk around a toyota dealership one afternoon and look under every truck.

So I installed the steel engine skid plate, two pieces. I'm interested in protecting my transmission pan. What do I need for that? Is this the purpose of the catalytic converter shield?

Yes, the transmission skid doubles as front catalytic converter shield.

I am pretty sure you have a 3rd gen? This is a link to our transmission skid. You can get the steel version on the drop down.

Looking at the distance, it'd be cheaper to buy and resell a used fuel tank to have shipped to you, than it would be to pay for fuel to drive there and back, lol.

The fuel tank is the easy part. Its getting the fuel tank in relation to the truck frame and the TRD pro mounts that is the hard part.

the first couple shields I designed everything was 1/8” off. It was so consistent I started adding 1/8” to
    All my measurements.

then I bought a better tape measure and boom…. Dead on.

Hey guys, new 2023 Platinum Tundra owner here and I'm looking at getting a plate for my cats. Aside from being a little heavier, what would the downside be of going with the stainless cover over the aluminum cover?

    Thanks!

Do you mean the powder coated steel? I went with the steel. Stronger. Rocks tend to slide on steel. On aluminum then tend to grab a little more. It's a big heavy truck. The weight didn't matter to me.

Yes, that's the one. I don't do much offroading, but just wondering if there are any downsides especially with the steel plates being about $100 cheaper right now

Main downsides are the steel is heavier and powder coated steel can eventually get rock chips/scratches on it, and will require touch up or it will rust.

Aluminum is a install it and forget it.

Quick question - do you know if the Talons plates are OK for use in California and smog checks? They say that "required identifying information must be visible" for smog checks, I guess to confirm that the cat's are OEM. Is the info on the cat's visible with the shields installed?

    this is a great question….

I would assume the slots are big enough to see… but this is one of those where it might come down to the individual inspector.

I haven’t received any complaints though, so I bet it’s likely alright.

    @Talon2006

I’m getting some squeaking noise from cat shields on my 2020 tundra with trd pro fox suspension and trd skid plate.

Is that normal? Dealer said the noise is coming from cat shield and there’s nothing they can do about it. It happens at slow speed turns etc.
