Curious if this mirror is fixable. I smacked a tree yesterday in the woods. The threads and plastic look clean. I never realized the glass was stuck on the OEM glass underneath.

Cool. Had me worried. Everything I've seen on YouTube is replacing the entire unit.

Might need to JY some actuators unless you think you can jbweld the mounts back on? Sorry, havent had my mirrors apart. Maybe chase the threads?

on a side note, there is all kinds of room for a light in the top of that housing.

The more I look at it the more i think I got lucky with a direct pop off. I think I can just push it back on. Gonna look at it in the morning. Got home from a 1000 mile trip an hr ago. Looks like the plastic arms have retention that pop over the threads instead of screwing.

I feel stupid. I found a video of the glass replacement alone and it's as I thought. Gonna find replacement glass from rock auto or something and order away. Sorry for the dumb thread. Tired and stressed lol

The issue I'm having now is that all the ones for sale have an electrical connection that's not the same as mine. Trying to source a replacement glass with the frame if possible. If not I'll just buy the glass, break the old glass and install I guess.

Ever worked with solder? Not too bad, just solder some blades on. Might be able to melt the old tabs off & reuse em.

Yeah I have a solder iron. I just was hoping to find one with the tabs. Not sure what connection the two holes are on all the replacements. Trying to make sure I order the right one on the 1st try. It's an 05 access cab limited. I think the DCs have a larger mirror. Also these are powered but non heated I believe. Unless I have a button for heated mirrors or they're automatic. I've only owned the truck a few months. I think the best bet is just to use the backing plate I have for now and restack the replacement glass on top like it was. I can worry about an actual replacement later if it bothers me. Both mirrors had replacement glass stacked, I just never noticed.

Yea, dc & sequoia have larger mirrors. I did a quick search an found '03-'06, but i assume its because of that defroster. Im not sure, but i dont think mine has it. I mean, theres no button for it.

Going to bite the bullet and go oem and would just like to confirm that the part number is 879080C070 if anyone with better knowledge would know. I've ordered the wrong parts from these places before and ate shipping both ways as well as restocking fees. Trying to avoid that as best as possible.

I had same issue on my '06 AC Limited 4WD. Also running heated mirrors. Got tagged on passenger side mirror, smashed the glass. I bought a new heated insert from Toyota. It came with paper instructions. That reply I just linked to also has a link to Sue's video showing uninstall/reinstall, but read my whole reply. My passenger side p/n was 87908-0C070, it was around $60 direct from Toyota Parts site, and it included the heater circuit along with new mounting parts and lube.

Be careful when pushing in the mirror, there's a sweet spot for the amount of force to use. If I can help in any way LMK.

PS - you'll notice due to packaging, there may be marks on the mirror replacement glass that don't wipe off with window cleaner. I had to use a little dab of auto polish on the glass to buff the marks out.

Thank you. Yeah every time I use a site for oem parts it's crap. I ordered it and already got a back ordered part email. So I called my local dealer (60 miles one way) and just ate the 90$ plus tax for the part. Ittl be here Wednesday. It ended up being the part number mcgeorge said it wasn't. Frustrating lol

In McGeorge's defense, supplying them with my VIN#, they are usually very prompt in emailing me back saying so and give me correct one. They became my go to when Toyota of Cool Springs shut down their operation. What's real frustrating is how Toyota Corp managed to fubar their online parts ordering system

I recently had several email exchanges with McGeorge. They admit that their customer facing site(s) have problems (operated by "third party" they say...). Now I just ferret out the p/n's I think I want (using partsoug, epic, whatever) then send McGeorge an email (with VIN) asking for a quote. They'll confirm my p/n's and/or specify the correct ones. Afterward I'll enter the order on line.

Please excuse the glare. I am not sure which wire goes to which terminal or if it even matters. Would like to have it correct before popping on. Thanks.

If you are speaking of the 2 conductors not in place, since they are for the heating element and it does not care about polarity, you are correct that it does not matter.,

If you really wanted to wire up as it was, pure copper wire has a natural tendency to memorize its shape, and you can pretty well see in the picture which was the upper and lower.

But if you need more proof than Bubba's word, notice the wire sheaths are the same color, no way to differentiate ... that should tell you something ;)

If you plug the wires on backwards you’ll just have a cooled mirror.

To that point though ... does anyone ever use their heated mirrors? All the years I've owned this truck, I can't even remember if I've ever pushed the button to turn them on.

I use the ones in my daily lexus any time they are fogged over. They clear off in about 30 seconds. They turn on with the rear defrost. I miss them in my other vehicles.
