I saw a post on my local Facebook marketplace of a guy wanting to trade his trd exhaust on a 2016 crewmax for a stock exhaust because he’s sick of the drone when towing.

I have a 2010 crewmax and was curious if anyone knows if the trd dual exhaust will fit on my tundra?

I understand I just am not sure if the exhaust design or fitment is different from 2nd gen to 2.5 gen.

    Thanks

It is indeed different. You need an adapter to accommodate for the shorter pipe coming off of the header. Any competent exhaust shop can make this with two flanges to allow a bolt on application.

Is this something you had done for your truck?

I appreciate the information that is super helpful!

TRD exhaust below. Notice the short pipe on the near side.

Not the best picture, but notice the near side pipe is longer and curved on a 2007 to 2010 OEM exhaust. If this is your current exhaust, you’ll need to adapt the near side TRD pipe to your mid pipe flange. Keith at BAMuffler sells a bolt on adapter- link below or you can see if an exhaust shop can fab one for you like previous poster suggested.

I have a used bolt on adapter that I got from dd/bamuffler that I can sell. I used it on my 2008 Tundra when I put on TRD exhaust from a 2.5 gen. I took it off before I sold my truck.

Thank you for the information! this is exactly what I was looking for. The only question I still need to find an answer for is what would the guy with the 2016 2.5 gen Tundra have to do to get my stock 2010 exhaust to work on his 2016 tundra?

I would definitely be interested in purchasing the adapter from you depending on how much you want for it with shipping and everything.

The only problem is that I also need to figure out if my stock exhaust will be able to fit on the guys 2016 Tundra.

That would require some cutting and fabrication. The long curved pipe would have to be cut and a shorter - basically straight piece with a flange would have to be made that bolts into the mid pipe flange. Look at the setup on the TRD picture - that's what he would need for his 2016.

Thanks to everyone for the assistance! I was actually able to reach out to Keith at BAMuffler and learned that 2010+ is going to be roughly the same exhaust system and that the TRD exhaust would swap onto my truck without any modification and vice versa. The adapter discussed is only for 2007-2009 Tundra's. Thanks again!

Nice! How do you like the TRD exhaust? I’m kind of second guessing whether or not I should make the trade as I was told by Keith from BAMuffler that you lose 1-2 mpg due to low end torque loss so now I’m unsure if I want to swap.

One of my most favorite mods. It sounds and feels amazing to me. That said is does lose torque and some minor MPGs. I’m not sure about 1-2 but in my opinion well worth the sacrifice to stay with the OEM option.

I know it’s a truck and I don’t care too much about mpg’s but to go down just for the sound of the exhaust I’m kind of hesitant.

    thanks for the insight though!

I used to run a TRD exhaust. There is some torque loss - mostly felt maintaining or fluctuating speed in 6th gear between 50 to low 60 mph. It wasn’t terrible- you may get some downshifting (depending on load) that you wouldn’t have gotten with OEM or Keith’s systems. But it didn’t gear hunt between 5th and 6th excessively. Mid range was noticeably stronger with TRD compared to OEM. My biggest issue with the TRD was the pulsating divorced dual resonance (sometimes referred to as helicopter sound) when cruising in the 50 to 65 mph range. Some people really like the sound - it’s kind of old school - but I grew tired of it on long trips.

Attached photo. Adapter is needed when using an exhaust system from a 14-21 tundra on an 07-13.
