You’re just due for a tire rotation per the Toyota schedule assuming you’re not towing or anything like that.

You have free maintenance from Toyota for two years 20k miles.

It includes tire rotation every 5k miles, and oil change every 10k miles.

If you plan to keep your truck for a long time, it's Car Nut recommended to do oil changes every 5k miles - so you'll either have to pay for this 5k oil change, or tell your service advisor that you'd like to use your free 10k oil change.

    How could I not :)

I just hit 5k on my 23, took delivery early February. I told my service advisor to hit me with the 10k service because I'm not waiting 10k to change the oil. They were happy to oblige.

At 10k I'll ask for the 20k service for another oil change, then after that I'll be doing my own oil changes every 5k.

Good idea... First use up the free oil changes and don't spend money. Never know what could happen tomorrow..

I love his channel. I did an oil change myself at 500 miles, and going to do another one myself at 5k, bring it in for a tire rotation. I’m currently leasing the truck but do plan on buying it out at the end so definitely taking care of it. I think under lease agreement you also get some additional services, like alignment until 12,000 miles or something like that. Not sure if it comes with a regular purchase.
Or just go with the smart advice of the previous posters and use up the services provided first then do my own oil changes

German cars in Germany are sold to Eastern Europe after 3-5 years of use, where they are known for heavily sludged engines despite low miles. Which is fine, because German engines are crap these days. Good oil and short OCI won't make them running longer.

My friend, it's about making smart-er financial decisions throughout your lifetime. Every little bit counts and adds up.

I learned that if you don't have to pay right away, without any harm, then don't pay.

What if OP decides to trade in the truck after a year? Or God forbid something else happens to the truck?

So are Japan vehicles and they are reliable. I think the BMW inline 6 is perhaps one of the best 6 cylinders ever made. Very tried and true design.

IDK why people argue about oil change intervals. A lot of the evidence people in this thread have provided is anecdotal. if you want the best OCI for YOUR usage, send your oil out for analysis to blackstone. after a couple of changes, they will use *science* to determine the best interval for your truck.

I know science might scare some of y'all, but I promise, we eggheads love finding optimizations for literally everything in life.
I just spent 3 hours optimizing a script to save me ~12 seconds a week in processing time for one of my servers.

He's correct in that this user should have had a 5k mile OCI. the dealership advised the buyer incorrectly. With an 80 mile/day commute he's racking up 5k miles every 2 months. That definitely falls under the "heavy use" mentioned in the manual and he should have been at 5k mile oil changes. The video also doesn't mention if the user got full synthetic or a blend at every 10k mile change. Blends have a 30% shorter usage life, so that should also be reflected in your oil change intervals.

*Please note I do not speak for Toyota Corp, this is just my experience as an ASE mechanic and former Toyota Tech

If you're driving 25k+ miles per year, definitely have a more frequent OCI. When I had my 2020 Tacoma, I was towing my Miata all over the country, I put 22k miles on it the first year. Blackstone recommended a 7k mile OCI for my usage. My tundra is seeing highish usage too, i've got 9k miles after 5 months. My first oil change is planned at 10k and we'll see what Blackstone says for an OCI after that one, and adjust as needed.

For the average person that drives 10-15k miles per year in mostly normal road conditions, a 10k OCI should be perfectly fine.

Science sees only what drained out of engine. It does not see what didn't drain.

According to science, this German Castrol did just great all those long years! Definitely could push OCI beyond 10k miles!

    1.jpg

That's another engine from the same model/same year car, similar mileage.

    2.jpg

It is a bit cleaner, because the owner used a cheap semi-synth oil after the free oil changes ran out. Running more expensive PAO oil has its own downsides.

Fresh OK Autozone oil is better than 10k miles boutique oil.

My tire and wheel guy has owned Tundras for 20 years, and his 08 Tundra wouldn't get the oil changed till 20k miles. He sold it with around 160 thousand miles on it and has a new Tundra now.

I've used Blackstone for years in my diesel boats. Usually run the tests 2-3x a year and watching carefully for raw water, antifreeze and fuel contamination. Oil changes are ungodly expensive so the analysis is watched carefully. As you point out, the Blackstone tests become more useful the more you use them as they will show variance after you've built a baseline.

I didn’t spend the money to just swap out stuff.
Seattle area is quoting $13X.XXish OTD. That’s not far off from cost of materials if I did it myself. However I don’t want to chance trusting an oil tech to collect a sample for my blackstone analysis so I guess I should do it myself - but then I lose the value of keeping service records.

Might have to collect a sample using a high temp dropper???

Is everyone running super expensive boutique oils or what? $130 is not far off from cost of materials??? In what universe?

I can buy a 12qt box of Mobil1 at Walmart for $60 and a Toyota OEM filter for $7 or so. 2 of those 12 qt boxes is enough to do 3 oil changes, plus 3 filters, averages out to just under $50 cost of materials per oil change.

$10 a quart for Toyota Synthetic. I bought a new Pro and I want to keep it for a long time. In my other vehicles I pick up those rebate deals on Pennzoil synthetic.

I hear ya there, I plan on keeping this Tundra for a very long time. My previous vehicle was an '05 4Runner that I had for 17 years. It ran Mobil1 exclusively since the first oil change and never an issue. Everyone has their own opinions on these things, but I'm in the "use a name brand full synthetic oil and you'll be fine" camp.

So with oil change intervals, my old 07 tundra had 180k and I changed it every 5k with Mobile 1 never burned a drop.

Had a 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe, changed it every 7500k with Mobile 1, per Hyundai recommendations. It needed a new engine after 95K for oil consumption.

My 2020 Highlander and 2023 tundra have been changing every 5k with Mobile 1, won't go longer than 5k after the Hyundai fiasco, but that might just be, because I bought a Hyundai and not a Toyota:monocle:

Side note anyone run Kirkland oil, it's so cheap for a two 5 quart pack, seems legit right?!?! Everything else Kirkland is pretty high quality

Any issues with using that oil in your Cruze? How many miles did you use it for?

no issues, ran it for almost 2 years before I sold it. LSPI is a concern in those motors and I ran it on 26psi and E85. I never pushed it beyond 5k miles, nor did I do any oil analysis on it either. I'm not taking a chance on the truck though...that is getting Amsoil Signature Series and analysis/change every 5,000.

    Nitrogen filled tires!
450 miles on the OD and a 1200 mile trip on the radar - gonna do the oil and filter when I get back. Should be a good break-in mileage with varying mph and no towing. Will be a DYI and then let the Dealer do the next change at 5K. All future changes at 5K interval for me.

Behind Kirkland is a big name brand Company. Guarantee it.
After the break in two Toyo changes I’ll run Kirkland synthetic and let Blackstone test it

I think it's Warren oil, I saw a video, I think the Walmart Oil, Amazon Basics and Kirkland are all made by the same company. Think Kirkland is the cheapest of them all.
