    Happy 4th Everyone!

Getting new tires in a couple days and have it narrowed down to Toyo AT3 and Falken Wildpeak AT3W. They are very close in all category’s and I’m drawn to the Toyos but WPs are more recommended. It’s coming down to looks and I prefer the WP’s

These will be SL tires and my concern is the WP’s are about 20% heavier than the Toyos - 50 lbs compared to 42 lbs.

What issues if any might this cause?

50 lbs is heavy for an SL tire; all of the WP's are much heavier than most other tires in the category. I have not run the WP's but I have run the Toyo AT3 for a bit. They buzzed and drove me crazy but I know lots of guys that run them. And they honestly rode very comfortably. I swapped them for another set of Cooper AT3's and it definitely a more firm ride than the Toyo's. I also know lots of folks that run the WP's. Consensus on the WP's from them say that they are awesome until about half tread, then they get noisy. But lots of tires do that.. Even with the buzz, I'd still prolly choose the Toyo's over the WP's.

The weight is my biggest concern, I have cooper AT3 4S now and the WP’s are 6 lbs heavier than those. The Toyo and WP are so close in ratings but WP is much more recommended. My gut is to go with Toyo but o think the WP’s look much better.

Ok so TireRack has different specs for the WP’s for some reason. Tire Rack has 50 lbs weight with 51 max PSI compared to DT at 48 and 44 psi. And on the Toyo Tire Rack has them at 42lbs/44Psi and DT has them at 45lbs/44lbs. So only a 3 pound difference by DT specs but 8lb on TireRack. That’s a significant difference

can't comment on the WP's, but had the same dilemma, I went with the TOYO's. They look great, I am 100% happy with my decision. So, i guess this is my vote to go for the lighter tire!

If I didn’t like the looks of the WP so much more the Toyos would be my choice - still torn

I run my tires at 34 even though the door sticker reads 49, 49 is too stiff of a ride.
Actually, I never took into account a tire's weight when I bought tries..
I'm at 13.9 MPG without a care in the world...:burnrubber:

    Good luck..

I’ve had both. The Falken’s were on my Tacoma and were great at first but then they started to have issues with vibration. Balance machine said they were in spec but I couldn’t get rid of the vibration that occurred at 55mph. I now have the Toyo AT3s on my tundra and they have been great so far. They are a little louder than the wild peaks but not by much.

I was tempted by the WPs in the past. Great tires. Then I found the Holy Grail of AT tires and run them on everything 4wd. Goodyear Wrangler UltraTerrain ATs. Performance on ice and snow is incredible. Performance in the sand and rocks is amazing. They sling mud very well, never slip on wet roads, never have hydroplaned, wear like iron (seriously, they were going to go to 70k miles on my 4Runner), and have a great ride.

The only negatives I have found is that they retain small rocks. Driving on gravel results in lots of rocks hitting the wheelwells and undercarriage. And the tire noise is noticeable if you drive around without the radio on, which nobody normal does.
