So I have an intermittent issue with my shifter.

my truck will start however, when trying to put the vehicle into drive or reverse, my shifter will not release from park.

My question is, could this be caused by my brake lights being out with the exception of my third brake light? I also just noticed today that my traction control light came on out of the blue when starting my truck. In my defense on the brake lights the bulbs are fine. I think it has to do with the wiring harness back there because if I jiggle the tail light assembly or the wires, my brake lights come back on but funny enough I have a running lights.

First off, I'm not a mechanic so take that into consideration.

Maybe you have a bad stoplight switch or shift lock solenoid.
I'd guess with your brake light issue, that brake switch may be it.
For $20 or so bucks, it would be a good place to start.
