Door sill removal

Alright...got the easy part done...5 screws iut and neatly put away. Now, how do I get the sill panel off without destroying it? Are there clips? Do I just pull up from the interior side? Wedge plastic trim removal to pop it off slowly? I dislike breaking things lol.

 

Just pull straight up normally from one end. Doesn’t matter if it’s the inside or outside corner, the plastic tabs are symmetrical.

Don’t yank it though, just pull it up slowly if you’re concerned.

 

Wondering if it is worth the time suck to clean these up or buy new ones. 20 years of restaurant grime and grease.

Not difficult to "clean" per se. It just won't be up to my standards and my OCD arse would be out ther all day trying to get
the grime out of the nooks and crannies. Still may not be happy with the result

 

When you pull them, you can clean them thoroughly and the carpet where they cover. I've done it multiple times although you may want new screws so the heads look perfect. lol

 

Before and after I hit it with a damp MF. Now I want to break out the brush and get everything out of the patterned ridges lol

 

Yikes! Yeah, looks like you've got some staining there. Mine will just clean off with a scrub brush. Maybe pull them and soak overnight?

But you should be able to just get your fingers under the edge on the end of the sill and just pull straight up. I may have been wrong about there not being any metal clips. It may just be center tabs with clips (been quite a while since I've pulled them)

 

I don't remember any clips when I worked on mine, maybe they're just stuck??

 

As mentioned, there are no clips. Once removed, you'll see that every screw has what's circled below. Anytime I have removed(many times), I make sure I push those 2 points together best I can before re-install, considering they are ~20 yrs old. Once removed you'll also see the roughly 1/2" squares cut out of body that the 2 points are going in. When you replace screw, it's simply spreading the plastic points outward, so don't put a german tight on em, somewhat finger type is good.

 

I can’t remember if there were or not, but they’re definitely easy to get off without breaking them.
