Save your trailer in the settings, then go have fun. The manual explains it better than me, but it will be a joy towing it I predict

Some trailers have surge breaks, a 16’ boat may not. But if it does, backing up, if it presses the brake cylinder, can cause the brakes to set on. Say backing up a slight incline. Those type of brakes usually have a manual switch on the trailer tongue you can turn to disable it. Just a Tiger trap I fell into early on.

As others said, set the trailer up in your gauge cluster and use tow/haul mode. For the small of a boat you shouldn't need the tow+ setting. Make sure you hit the button on the left side of the dash that turns off the rear auto braking. Even with the truck knowing it's connected to a trailer, they will occasionally auto brake when backing. RCTA automatically gets disabled when a trailer is connected.

The surge brakes are disabled when the reverse lights are on. There is a manual override to the surge brakes when being towed around a service yard or something and the wiring isn't connected, on mine it's a small flat piece of metal that goes into a slot to prevent the tongue from compressing and applying brake pressure.

First time towing our 27’ travel trailer was a breeze. The torque is fantastic and I don’t think I went over 2500 rpm’s once (going up Hwy 24 (towards Woodland Park, CO)…

Most importantly, don't forget it's back there! One simple mistake can be really bad, and I have seen many plain ugly incidents that could have been totally prevented.

Be sure to plug the lights in and put it in tow mode. Mine backed up fine but locks up if you open the door to look behind you or if you drop the tailgate to see the boat if you launch on a steep ramp.

Read the manual's towing section. It has all that info in it.

Maybe they’ll make a mirror that can see over the steep ramp on the 24 models ??
