I bought a tongue weight scale with the intention of using it to help adjusting what I thought was a 2300lb tongue weight on a 4500lb boat/trailer setup. The trailer is new, custom built, and I was really concerned that I was overloading the rear axle on my truck (max weight rating 4150lbs). So look below at the pictures of the two weighs that I did last week on a CAT scale. First picture is with the trailer, and for the second weigh I unhooked the trailer and weighed just the truck. Third picture is the tongue weight of 450lbs shown on the scale. So I'm a bit confused. And still a bit concerned that there's too much weight on the rear axle. But I can't figure out the huge discrepancy between the CAT scale weights and the tongue scale readout. Any opinions on what the deal is here?20230630_181424.jpg 20230630_181430.jpg 20230630_180930.jpg

I am lost, is this a weight of a trailer hooked to a Tundra or a Ford F-350? If Tundra, you are about 1,360 over payload or double what a Tundra is rated for?

Did you take the first picture before getting the tongue weight scale? Does the tongue weight scale have some kind of lock on it?

If something is wrong, I would think it’s the tongue weight scale.
Except the tongue weight scale shows only 450 lb. I think the tongue weight scale is messed up.

Yeah, that's what has me confused. Only thing I can think of is I lined up on the CAT scale incorrectly. But I drove 18 wheelers for a few years and know how to scale. This is weird.

No lock on the tongue scale, I even sat on the tongue and it showed 650. I've also sent an email to the company that made the tongue scale. The other thing is that the truck doesn't drive like it has that much weight on the hitch. I've driven it overweight on the tongue before. Not the least bit light-feeling in the front.

I think you somehow managed to straddle the two scale sections. Tandem axle trailer, by chance?

Yep, tandem axle. And of course a helluva lot shorter rig than the 53 footers I used to scale. I'm thinking the same thing.

The more I think about that day, I was paying closest attention to getting the truck axles on the right sections, and not so much the trailer. I bet you get the prize. Thanks. Gonna have to get on a CAT scale again, just for my own peace of mind.

I agree, the trailer was partially on the drive axle scale. Looks like it's time for a re-weigh.

2500lbs on the rear bumper would lift the front end by more than 160lbs. My front end gets lighter by 100lbs if I loosen my WDH one notch.
