Let me see your wheels

Hey guys I’m trying to get an idea for new wheels I’ll be going with 17’s the tire options seem better in that size. But I wanted to see what -6, -12, and maybe -25 looks like. I’m wanted to the wheels and tires to come flush with the fenders not really looking for much poke.

 

Uh ... -6, -12 and -25 means nothing if you don't know the wheel width

Or am I crazy?

 

Let me know your wheel width with the offset lol. Most 17’s are going to be 8.5-9 probably

That's pretty much what I did, found trucks I liked, but at this forum by hitting this pics thread since Custom Offset's side has so many burb crawler/bro-dozers that look silly: https://www.tundras.com/threads/lets-see-your-first-gen-photo-thread.21/

And dug through it to find wheel/tire combos I liked, and if the user didn't have the wheel specs in their profile or posted elsewhere, and whether they used spacers or not, the search feature here has boxes that lets you isolate results to only search one member's previous comments. So I clicked on search, put their name in the 'Posted by member' blank, and searched for these terms, one term per search: spacers, offset, backspace, 285, 275

That got me where I wanted to be in 90% of cases. And where it didn't, I found other ways. Sometimes that meant asking pubicly, and once or twice sending a PM, which I don't like to do... I don't like being the guy who randomly PMs people for info, I try to keep it to a minimum.

But when wheel shopping myself, what I noticed is almost all the popular offroad brands - SCS, Method, Raceline, Vision, etc. - are offering up 0 and -12 as the primary options on 17s, and either 17x8.5 or 17x9 depending on the style/manufacturer. I didn't see any offroad brands using positive offset (not that I remember at least).

Generally speaking, you can get a good idea of what SCS is offering if you check out @EvilMilkshake or @FirstGenVol, I think they're both running 17x8.5 in -12 and are pretty flush to the fender in both cases w/o spacers. I'd need to dig back in notes. Finding wheels that I'd enjoy the fitment of was a daunting task. I landed with gunmetal Raceline Boost 946G in 17x9 @ -12 myself, but not installed yet. I was really close to buying tires, had them in the cart and all, but got sidetracked while we were in NorCal on a hiking expedition and the damn price went up. I also wasn't sure I wanted to go with 275/70r17 after all on a 17x9, wasn't sure how detrimental or bad that little bit of stretch would be.

It's so funny because I wrote -10 and -12 up there, knowing Methods are -12 normally, so is Raceline IIRC. EM's om the same boat as you IIRC. He has the Blaze10 in the awesome brushed copper or whatever color looks more like bronze to me.

 

When are you putting your nice new wheels on? Are you still trying to pick tires?

 

are you lifting the truck? Are you interested in cutting pinch welds and cutting fender liner, and ok with frame rubbing at full lock?

 

What color is your truck? I'm in the same boat and "Desert Sand" doesn't lend itself to a lot of options.

 

The truck is lifted 2” and I’ll be running 285-70-17 tires

 

im running Method NV 305 0 offset, on k02 258-70-17 below is a photo with spacer 1.25 (-30 offset)

That offset with the spacers doesn’t look to bad but I’m thinking the -12 is the sweet spot

Down side to the spacer is you rub on the outer fender. Took the spacers off after 5min and a drive around the block

16’s are fine more curious about offsets I’m leaning more towards around -12

 

Trying to do a little window shopping for when I replace my stock split 5-spokes, but it's so confusing.
I want to stay with as close to the stock wheel dimensions as possible, but all the offset /backspacing numbers make it like reading Chinese.

 

16x8 wheel, 0 offset, 4.5 back space

flattened pinch welds, flares are off just haven’t gotten around to trimming. I did put the flares up beside the truck to see and I’m still nearly a full lug out

How did you mount those fog lights?

 

Got some nice recommendations so far, if fitting 33s, aim for 4” BS if you don’t want spacers. Perfect for clearing UCAs and not too far out to hit fenders.

One day I’ll afford cool wheels, for now it’s budget stock bedlined.

 

Also be wary of aftermarket’s too, hub bore can fit, but I had several wheels rub my caliper when trying sixteens.

Keep it simple, stock we have 7” wheel width, with +15 offset.

to measure Backspace, it is the width plus one divided by two, and +/- offset/25.4

so stock BS us 8/2 + .6 or 4.6” BS. Or you could just plug the numbers into a fancy calculator.

Most sixteens are 8” wide, so look at 0 offset on those, and seventeens are common in 9”, so look for something around -10 offset.

 

Alright guys here’s the setup I went with wheels are Vision Nemesis in 17x9 with a -12 off set and tires are Kenda Klever rt in 285-70-17. I love the setup and the -12 gives the perfect stance in my opinion.

 

mine is a little different than most on here.

20x8.5 +15mm offset. they are Enkei XSP WT4 wheels from an 06 4Runner XSP package.

they are flush with the fender flare... and no rubbing.

 

i've got some 20x9's +18 that i drove about 50 miles with 275/60-20's without spacers and just polished the uca. Bone stock truck with worn out bushings.

Calling all desert sand bros. I'm in the market for wheels and trying to stay away from going the "easy" route and choosing black. I'm kinda digging the idea of wheels with a desert sand finish, but black rhino seems to be the only real option and finding real world examples is not easy.

Anyone out there who has such a beast?

 

Might as well post these, even if the 4 wheels + 1 spare are going up for sale soon. (Less than 50 miles, come and get 'em, son!)

Raceline Boost 946G in gunmetal at 17x9, -12 MM offset (this 4.53 backspace), no spacers. Baja Legend EXP, LT275/70r17. Love how they look in the well, but they rub the front flaps at the edge of the flap - should've stuck with a backspace higher than 4.7
