Wait.... So what's the cabin air filter actually go to???

 

I didn't know the virus had marker on it. There was an LX470 at Jambo that had a sign with plenty of markers telling people to write on it. So we did. It was fun.

 

Could always convert it to a power slider.
Zip tie is probably cheaper lol

So I pulled an ass move 4 hours in with 10 minutes out on a not technical but brutal trail. My buddy thrashed his bump stop mounts on the 80s Jimmy. That's fine, I'll make his way better. But the down hill was a beating for sure. Worst whoops on a downhill and the entire weight of your truck hits what you have hard.

Anyway, I screwed up the way I have before. Not again - I've come to learn and regret that backing down a hill is probably the worst or most dangerous move you will make. It's worth getting out of the truck for a look at least and better having a spotter. And go slow. You lose steering and a lot unless you can just run down, which can be its own problem. Yay, I taught some of you nothing, but some may appreciate what I'm saying.

Going up a 45 deg big hill I lost traction about half way. Backed up, gave it more speed and made it 80%. Backed down again because I knew I could make it easy with more speed. Backed myself off the trail half way into sand with a tree behind me. So dumb. I know how to recover, I know winches, And I know I was in a bad spot with one trail buddy. Fortunately, he was on top of the hill.

He said tow strap? Nope. Straight winch? Nope. 2:1 winch and lets see. I told him I was concerned about pulling my bumper off. He thought I was crazy. I was already considering a 3:1

Anyway, he was over the top and I started pulling him backward. That's pretty damn stuck. I let out line and had him roll father over the hill. We shoveled the tires and any drag points. I remote winched from inside my truck with the hood up and head down. Super easy gas just enough to not spin but that was hard to control. Made a few inches and let the winch rest. Repeat. Took an hour. This hill was steep and soft enough you could not walk it without eating shit. Had I not gone off the trail, it would have been fine, or at least a hell of a lot easier. We weren't just pulling against the hill, but also the hole my driver side was in.

It's not a great feeling when you are looking around and knowing one or two more trucks to pull the rear and we can back this down, but I may have to call a recovery service without them. Fortunately it worked out. Slow is pro, but I'll be doing a better job of checking my backside in the future.

4WD is the next truck. I love this truck the way it is except I want a rear that can handle what I throw at it. That beating was driver fault, not the truck. Some of the boys will attest to what this thing can do if I don't drive like an ass, lol.

Thanks Rusty. And no kidding. More trucks would have been great to tie off to. Pictures don't show much, and up was safe if it went, but rolling wasn't out of my mind if we went at it wrong. Once I got in the truck from the driver side, I never tried that again - passenger and then crawl across. It was total crap. You would have loved it.

I'll tell ya how I solved that problem; opened up the window and loaded 2 4x12x16ft beams in my truck, resting on only the tailgate and the window frame. Only took 1 time doing that. Worked so well in fact, that I actually had to work some magic to get the window to slide at all. Better idea would be to just throw a rag over the bottom of the window frame and give a little squeeze with a pair of pliers to close up the channel it slides in.

 

Pic shows alot to me. I mean, I can see what was happening. Yeah, backing down from there woulda been a gamble at best. You done good tho, saving it. My only question is; where in the fuck was kyle at?

I know people like to joke about the dry heat thing but I will take 105 with low humidity over 90 with high humidity every time.

I was looking for a video I saw recently. Dude took some 2x4s and rachet strapped them to his tire. It actually worked pretty good. Might help in the future? Just remember: if it's stupid and it works, it ain't stupid.

 

Exactly, think it was 2.0 gen? RC I believe? Came out great but was hundreds of hours. Cut off the back and welded in the vertical slider from a DC or crew max or whatever those things are called. He had to do a lot to adjust for the differences.

 

Oh yeah that RC with the roll down rear window? That thing took a lot of work and is super cool. One of a kind.
Now if only it were also a T-top...
