I don't even think I realized the rubber gasket popped out.

It often does if you forget to lube it lol. But I never thought to remove it on purpose.

Yep, dunno, never gone in without at least rubbing a little lube on it.

I would have been willing to give one of those a shot, but they all vanished - fast. See a couple around, see none anywhere.
They must have been generally horrible vehicles.

I pay my dealer for oil changes. Cause it’s the one thing I plan to do once a year and I figure it gets me a visual inspection and is therefore some insurance against me really missing something obvious.

We test drove the Envoy and whatever the Buick SUV was in the same size in all of its price outrageousness, at the time we decided to buy our Highlander. Highlander won hands down. The Envoy was hot garbage. The Buick wasn't much better (quieter, more comfy) but at the price of a Cadillac.

Do you verify the oil level before you drive away?

I don’t think they can pick and choose which tech handles it but I could be wrong.

That's why I keep my 3 foot long headlight adjustment screwdriver in the cab. Poke the end thru the filter and the length provided gives me awesome torque to remove the filter. :D

You’re not going to keep your job too long if you’re doing outright fraud. I recognize the difference between a reasonable bet and total paranoia. A class action lawsuit would crush a dealership, they have solid financial incentive to keep the gravy train rolling.

Anyway, with the mileage I’m doing (aka not doing) an oil change every 2 years is perfectly fine. I’m at maybe 500 a year on the older trucks and maybe 1000 on the 2016? Wish I had somewhere to go.

Well it’s not fraud if a tech makes a mistake but there are shady dealerships. I worked with a woman when I was much younger who went in for a “tune up” and the most they did was change her spark plugs and change her oil. Distributor cap and spark plug wires were just cleaned to look new. Air filter wasn’t changed, throttle body wasn’t cleaned. Yet they charged her for all new stuff. Still in business today. :notsure:

I fully understand that dealer rep is a big part. I hand select my dealerships for a proper blend of honesty and reasonable prices. Go too fancy and you pay excessively. Go too cheap and you open yourself to getting taken advantage of.

I don’t think my service advisor considers me a friend or even an equal but I think he knows my expectation is to be treated honestly and that he loses 3 vehicles if he tries to f me over. Pretty sure a rogue tech at this dealership would get sent packing quickly, though I will admit my San Diego dealership had a pretty solid tech department. I even left the guy who got my front diff drain plug out a sixer, he earned it.

I'm glad in the last decade or so that psoriasis meds have come such a long way. But I have not started using any because they lower your immune system. First step was quitting the tobacco, next step is losing some weight. Then I'll try the meds
