Anyone know where I can find something like this for the Tundra? 38b56efd-28d6-4245-99cd-916f85eaa4a4-jpe_e7e1e55cc26cad51f383fe796d5622c302e50e4e.jpg

There is nothing currently available. I have been heavily searching myself.

+1. The only 3d printed mount that I have seen is an ash tray mount for a 3rd gen 4Runner. I thought about getting it and cutting the ash tray portion off and using the main housing to put a ball mount on it with an arm and mounting it next to the cup holder that is tucked under the AC controls.

This one uses a blank switch port to insert their mount.

I wonder if this would work with our grab handles...

I do like that. I’ve just been using the windshield mount since I got it. I’ve actually been impressed with it thus far. But this does look nice and would get it out of the field of view more.

I like what you’re thinking here. The housing does look nice and that little cup holder under the AC controls is kind of a dead space.

Never thought about Etsy. Always can find neat stuff on there.

Thanks for the replies, I really want it to have a stock look more so than an add on. I have seen the grab bar mount etc so far I like the one that looks like it’s installed more so than a added on after thought.

Wouldn't the grab bar one be in the path of the side airbag that comes out of the a-pillar? That could make a heck of a projectile.

So I finally have mine mounted now. I was hesitant to drill holes but its not like I was drilling into a body panel. I just drove about 12 miles with it and it is solid as a rock. I may switch to a short reach arm to lower it a little.

I have a Pro Clip phone mount in my Hellcat and really like it, but I’m not very comfortable mounting the Scan Gauge 3 so close to my d/s window. I’m going to try to figure a magnetic mount to the left of the radio, below the vent.

That will make it extremely close to the wiper control. I contemplated a few different spots before I found one.

I'll have to eyeball it when I open it on Christmas. Usually I like gauges as close to my line of site as possible, but with the available alarms maybe I’ll drop it down to the otherwise wasted space where yours is. Do you have alarms set, and can you hear/see them with the unit mounted so low? Are you powering it right off of the lighter?

Yes I can see and hear them. It is powered by the OBD port.

It ran chills down my spine just seeing it. Probably because it's an untested element in a (very) high energy system and things don't always react the way we expect.

Some of the questions I would have:
What's the mount section made out of?
Is it substantially stronger than the A-pillar plastic cover?
Even though it appears to be out of the path the bag, could it potentially add enough rigidity to prevent the airbag from deforming the plastic in a uniform manner as it inflates? If so, will the airbag follow the same path as designed, experience a pressure spike due to delayed expansion, or the panel induce enough drag force to rupture the bag?
If the A-pillar cover does deform as designed, will the mount attached to it deform plastically or will it spring back as it detaches, potentially with great speed? Or will it instead undergo a brittle fracture and add a sharp fast-moving hazard?
Or will it pop out of the way harmlessly and land next to the air vent?

I only know how the airbags must meet very stringent requirements on the manufacturing side of the equation. It's bad enough when an unexpected issue is found after the fact and you can see your career flash before your eyes as you're grilled about what may have deviated in the process. When you combine airbags and lawyers... it can induce shat bricks.

You're right. It's not for me.

Skepticism is good as an engineer.

The issue here is your questions would normally be asked while conducting due diligence and gathering facts but before reaching a conclusion.

If the product is misused that is a separate issue. Designs should try to limit misuse but it can't prevent all cases. Assuming the product is engineered in the first place.

A stop gap for misuse is usually a set of installation instructions and an owners manual.

My following comments aren't for you since you have a conclusion about the product and your perceived dangers of its misuse.

Page 46 of the Toyota Tundra owners manual SRS airbag section covers where you should not attach things to your vehicle's interior surfaces. I am referencing the 2020 version since that is what I have. Recommend consulting your model year's manual.

    https://www.manua.ls/toyota/tundra-2020/manual?p=46

This is an illustration from the manual on the page referenced indicating "no-go" surfaces.
    upload_2023-12-2_20-54-59.png
Added this one for other no go zones.
    upload_2023-12-2_21-43-40.png

Per ProClip instructions, this mount attaches at the bottom of the panel (below the grab handle area if you have one), the area closest to the dash.
