Driving down the highway and a car kicked up a rock that was probably dropped by a quarry truck.

Well, I hope that's as long as it takes. I sure hate paying for a paperweight.

Does your insurance pay for the Oem parts replacement?

My personal has Oem parts option and paid $2k for wife's mbz windshield replacement at the dealership. But my work Tundra insurance doesn't have Oem coverage option, so I'm a bit worried... Both are farmers.

Hit a turkey a couple of weeks ago in NC while traveling. My windshield has been on back order for a couple of weeks now. Safelite told me it was $1800 but insurance is covering it. Fortunately its not in my field of vision or I'd be screwed. Got a call yesterday saying it was being shipped to a site in Maryland so we can have it installed. Has anyone had one installed and camera recalibrate done? I'm wandering how long it's going to take.

safelite said about 4 hours with calibration and 1800 as well. also have to take to one of their shops due to the calibration process. one i didnt ask them was if it was gonna be a oem glass. do you know if yours will be oem.

KAP1 I have coverage through the dealership so it is not going to cost me, but I am still paying for a vehicle that I can't drive.

The guy that scheduled the appointment told me it was coming from the manufacturer, whatever that means. $1800 seems steep for an aftermarket windshield. He did tell me I'd have to bring it to a safelite location for the recalibration. Not sure what the hell I'm gonna do for 4 hours while I wait.

Safelite will 99% of the time use aftermarket. You have to ask for OEM and alot of insurance companies will not cover the additional cost.

Damn, I should've done more research. Would much rather like to have oem. Stock lift but I did go with 275/75r20 BFGs. So just a tad taller, maybe half an inch or so. I guess that would matter when recalibrating the camera.

I just did a search for the oem part # and found this:
56101-0C260 msrp is $802.23 with dealerships showing $569 on thier sites. Why the hell is safelite telling us its $1800 of this is correct?

You will be fine. I asked because if you have a lift, Safelite will not touch the truck at all. A calibration wouldn't even be required if they knew what they were doing. I have a lift on mine and the tech removed the camera, let it hang by the harness, and reinstalled it. No issues at all. He said the calibration wasn't needed since the connectors weren't disconnected.

Call a couple of your local glass shops and see what they tell you the OEM cost is.

That makes sense. I had a windshield replaced on my 2019 Z71 work truck a couple years ago and they didn't recalibrate. Never had an issue with the GPS tracking cruise on that one. I drove that P.O.S. all over the country.

safelte probably includes install, recalibration (expensive- my 19 tundra was something like $600 at the dealer), etc

Most dealerships don't change glass on site. They outsource it.

That's what the dealer in NC that did my 20k service told me. At least with safelite they have a warranty for life against leaks, etc. No outta pocket for me but Im sure my insurance company will be happy to tack on an extra few bucks to my premium.

Your premium should not increase. Safelite does use Chinese glass so I would find out what they are putting in.

My insurance covers all oem for both my vehicles. I pay a small premium. Love Nationwide. I’ve yet to replace my windshield, I ended up with another crack thereafter. So I’ve been sporting it like that, all my work trucks have cracks in em. We’ve had em replaced, by the nature of our work we just end up with cracked windshields again.
I’ll probably schedule it next month along with the scratches they have to repair.

Did you guys check out reviews of Safelite in your area? Yelp and Google reviews... In my area they got terrible reviews and I won't use them. Plus they use generic aftermarket window which, not Oem.

Mbz dealership replaced my window on site and had to do recalibration. So it's good to get this job done at a dealer to make sure they know what they're doing with your specific car or truck model.

This may be a good time to check with your insurance agent if your truck has Oem parts coverage. To add mine it was something like $5 per month which is worth it

I got my TRD Pro back from hail repair yesterday. They got everything fixed except the windshield. Should have that in a couple weeks. Luckily the damage is only on the passenger side, so it doesn't affect driving at all

If the debris comes off the truck and the dash cam shows that you have recourse. If it is road debris then there is nothing you can do.

We just replaced the windshield in our Sequoia. The body shop said it was $800. My mouth gaped and she said that's actually not bad because she replaced one in a BMW (maybe Audi) and it ran $3000.
