I did a quick estimate with the pressure on the vehicle we can relate to: the force on that sub is equivalent to stacking 120 Tundras over each and every square foot of surface area on the sub….:itllbuffout:

Wait a minute. It's fluoride that made us weak and lazy? Sounds like an inside job to me.

We should probably take this conversation off forum, but we should exchange frequencies. My sources indicated that the Canadians were already turning into something non-human from the infusion of a special additive in their water…

    I did my own calculation;
My 16 ton press is capable of squeezing hot steel @ 32,000 psi.

If you have ever seen the “coordination” between multiple agencies, then add the component of multiple governments.
Plus, have you ever been a personal observer of a situation that later, ended up in the news? I guarantee that they will have 50% of the details wrong.

I’m a project manager. The mere thought of thinking that that many people across that many agencies can all keep to the same story on the same schedule is laughable.

Absolutely! Plus the navy submersible is something that has details that they don’t want made public

In this case I believe the navy's official statement. They detected either an implosion or explosion. As soon as the missing sub was reported they notified the responsible agencies. I assume that means the Coast Guard. Without positive proof, that's not enough information to change a search and rescue mission to a recovery mission.

But I get your point. It's a fluid and stressful situation. Hindsight is always 20/20.

If you read the recently declassified Thresher report there are a lot of human decisions that can be second guessed. But, in my opinion at least, the Navy got it right. They regulated quality up front. That eliminated the "business" decisions during construction. That in turn greatly reduced the need for human decisions in the event of a casualty situation.

    Yep.

Plus even if the Navy knew with some certainty that the submersible imploded, it wouldn’t satisfy the public at all if they made that statement and no search was performed at all to attempt verification. So they passed on the information to the appropriate authority on site, and waited until more information could be found.

I don’t see anything nefarious. Just typical ass covering, responsibility shifting, and bureaucracy.

Saw this old myth busters clip going around of a diving suit having a relatively slow loss of pressure at 135 psi. I’m reading they were at 50x that pressure when it failed. Like the inverse of this

Not sure if this is allowed, but is the introduction video of safety procedures and explanation of the craft and how everything worked. This cat was crazy enough to go twice, missed his first trip due to the craft's safety concerns was offered a second trip and was able to go down.
This is crazy, for the record...

This is the actual trip, Mexican movie/telenovela star Alan Estrada, dived in this death trap. Interesting vid, but hard pass for me...

I watched a long documentary on the sub that visited all the deepest points of all the oceans. The DSV Limiting Factor. Piloted by Victor Vescovo.
The actual cabin was a perfect sphere made of 3.5" thick titanium. I think it's deepest dive was over 35k feet and spent 4 hrs down there. I think Cameron went down close to that deep in his sub. Also a spherical cabin that I assume was titanium.
At those depths and pressures, only a sphere will work. This is well established and there's no reason for "experimentation and innovation".
The sub that imploded was a cylinder I believe made of CF and half sphere end caps I believe made of titanium. Not an ideal shape for that pressure, CF not an ideal material for that pressure and marrying different materials=not ideal for that pressure.
I'm nobody and I understand these concepts. The titanium sphere is already designed, built, tested and proven at 35,000' (repeatedly, for long time periods, with no issues).
The OceanGate design didn't work at 13,000'.
My guess is that the CF tube design was cheaper to make and got them into the submersible game faster and at a lower cost.
The DSV Limiting Factor was also used for wreck ID, biological sampling and mapping.
Pretty sure the only point of the OceanGate sub was to make money on Titanic tourists.
It's tragic, but maybe this needed to happen, to show that not just any asshole should be allowed to build a vehicle and take passengers to the bottom of the ocean, or space, or wherever, for profit. Standards have already been established on what works and if you can't follow them, or afford to follow them, you shouldn't be allowed in the game.
And if they don't want to restrict or regulate it= let people do whatever they want because they have the money to do it, hey, no problem. I'm a libertarian at heart. But,.....then you don't enjoy the benefits of publicly funded services to come and save or look for you. Pay for your own plan B and then by all means, do what you like.

Bold to assume we wouldve been that capable as far as a cover-up. :rofl:The CG are podium princes and usually gave to ol’ media speeches.
As far as them spending days doing grid searches: I cannot begin to tell you the amount of fruitless SAR cases we spent days on until Sector gave the green light to pull off them. We went out knowing people were dead in some cases (EPIRB, lost comms, storms, 28° water, 100+ miles offshore, etc) but went off the “Trust but verify” method.. which was our fancy way of saying “find a body/wreckage” as a CYA and closure for the families.
Once they found the scraps they called it off, normal ops. If your loved ones went missing im sure youd want everyone and their mothers out searching for them rather than ‘we heard a boom, they ded’ and no effort given. Just the way of things, in spite of the dipshit decisions people make leading up to needing rescue (like getting into an experimental suppository-shaped carbon fiber tube and diving 2+ miles down).
