What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

That's just like mine, but my Leer has two latches (didn't come with keys and all the Scamazon replacements with two each comes with its own key--ain't tryna walk around with a freakin' jail guard keyring!!) and the clearcoat is shot on my roof. That's going to be my first real painting project to get my skills dialed in to possibly attempt some other body painting. (Rattle-can wheel painting doesn't count.) Also need to get the third brake light hooked up on that camper, bought a test light to start figuring out what's what.

 

I saw what looked like the perfect camper for me while in NorCal. It was even white and on an AC. I didn't recognize the company badge though. Slightly smaller (less width) windows than that one ^^ with one side as a windoor. Rear roof corner was more-round in the back/top. The edge that nestled up to the back window was curved ( to match the rear cab's body line damn near perfectly.

The logo on it was oval-is, but a long oval like (__________) in the lower rear corner but it didn't quite look at tall as the SnugTop badge, from my vantage point at least.

EDIT: Almost like this, but a low-rise version and the rear wall lined up better with the ass-end of the truck. It perfectly snugged up to the rear wall of the cab like this though, and one side was a windoor.

Just ordered my headlight housings from RockAuto, went with the TYC ones because they were the only ones with CAPA certs for both sides and they were only ~$70 for the pair; also ordered the BraveWAY H4s on A'mazon, around $60 for the pair. Hopefully have some updates early next week when everything's in.

Just realized today my fog lamps are non-functional....want to get those sorted, see if it's just bad bulbs or what, before starting to jack with the new headlights.

 

Finished my front end rebuild last weekend new Freedom uca’s new moog lowers will see how long they last, Bilstein 6112, new steering rack and rust remediation, 3rd gen Tacoma wheels with 1.25 spacers. Starting on the rear this weekend new leafs from ATS and Bilstein 5160 shocks

 

What's the tire size on those fronts, out of curiosity?

 

Anyone got a recommendation on plug n play fog lights?

 

They are worn down but they are 285-75-16 I’ll be getting new tires after I get an alignment and put about 500 miles on the setup and make sure everything is good. I’ll stick with the same size

My Scamazon handle has lasted 4 years and was only $19. It feels really cheap though and it's starting to look rough. I actually told Kelly on our Arizona trip to be careful when opening it. I should probably order a spare. They are now $22.69 on Scamazon.

I agree that OEM handle will last a long time.

 

I can testify that my Master Tailgaters replacement with the backup camera mounted in it isn't terrible, but it's definitely not as nice and sturdy as the OEMs. It definitely isn't as flex-y and thin as what folks describe the Amazon ones as being. Best of both worlds would be tapping a decent reverse camera into an OEM handle.

How much do those run?

 

I think I paid around $110 on their A'mazon store? There are knock-off ones that are probably similar (Chinese "technology transfer" principles in action!), some come with more of an insulated wire loom all the way up to the cab area where it runs to your head unit. It's interesting though, the weak point on the handles is usually to one extreme/side (I think mine's on the right), the opposite of where the actual metallic portion of the latch mechanism attaches to the plastic handle; if you bubba the hell out of the other side of the handle to open it, you're levering on it with what is really pretty crappy plastic, so I could see some galoot breaking mine one day if he's not paying attention.

 

Just stopped by my Stealership to pick up a cabin air filter for the Rav and I asked about the AC refresh kit. They want $42. GTFO...

Using the sticks from an extra tent, some ball & loop ties, and a cheap tarp; have figured out how to build a canopy that doesnt need to be tied to the wheels.

i have more tent sticks, just ran out of daylight.

 

I'd get the new tires, then align. Always align when adding new tires, they're taller than worn old tires, right?

 

My boss at the shop I worked at in college told me alignment after new tires isn't necessary and don't let any shop try to tell me it is. I was just starting to learn about cars when I got hired to check tire pressure and greet customers. Eventually I graduated to oil changes, tire rotations, basic maintenance services and state vehicle inspections. But when I went to buy my first set of big boy tires for my first Tacoma, that's what he told me so the tire shop couldn't try to rip me off. To this day I stand by it.
Alignment once a year, rotate once a year.

(But if I was moving to a larger tire, I would always realign after)

 

Obviously I'm no expert. But that's just what I was told and so far it's worked for me.

Not necessary. I actually recommend an alignment and then new tires so you don’t add unnecessary wear to your $1000+ investment.

Not necessary unless tires have a wear issue. Or you've changed parts to fit the bigger tires.

I always realign with new tires, for the reason mentioned: Don't want to risk wear uneven wear on my new investment.
