This doesn't need to turn into teams. People don't need to be divided into "the good people that feel bad for the families" and the bad people criticizing the situation".
It's actually possible to feel bad for the families and also criticize the situation. They are separate and simultaneous in my head.
But no one here knows the families, so I wouldn't get too self righteous and critical. I'll worry about my own soul.
I have an issue with any mooyuk with money, being allowed to build shit like this and take civilians into dangerous places. You wanna build a sub and go to the bottom of the ocean by yourself? Knock yourself out. You wanna sell tickets and take passengers along? You need to build your equipment to spec and be licensed and certified. If you want to sign a waiver and get on a vehicle as a passenger, that's not certified, in the most dangerous environment on the planet, knowing you could die, knowing you're on an experimental vehicle that wasn't certified by anyone worth their salt and knowing that if something goes wrong, you're putting hundreds of rescue workers' lives in danger to come after your stupid ass and costing the tax payers millions and risking putting your family through a loss,.....then you're a selfish idiot. Dying doesn't erase all that. It proves it. The only person I actually feel bad for is the 19 yr old's mother. And I doubt she can hear my typed comments in the back corner of a truck forum. Nor is she searching for them at the moment.
That's great if people wanna play mother Teresa on the internet and send thoughts and prayers and look down their nose at people's souls for making judgmental comments. Btw, has anyone called the families and offered support? Anyone going to the memorial service? Setting up a fundraiser?
    That's what I thought.
Shit like this needs to stop happening. But it won't. And if people wanna do extremely dumb shit and get themselves killed, time after time,.....how bad am I supposed to feel? We can feel bad about families losing loved ones, while also discussing everything that was perfectly wrong about this situation and why it shouldn't happen.
I feel bad for parents who lose children to illness, etc.
I don't feel bad for adult millionaires who do dumb shit like climb mountains or get on janky submarines and say meh, if anything happens, they'll spend millions and risk the lives of working folk to come get me.

My immediate thought with this story…..we can’t send men to the bottom of the ocean but we landed on the moon and went to Mars.

Going to the bottom of the ocean is actually more difficult than going into space. You get a hole in the hull of a spaceship, there’s a chance to recover. You get a crack in a submarine at that depth and it’s immediately game over.

My immediate thought was "I wonder what else is happening in the news right now while the entire world is focused on this one story?"
Google "6.2 billion dollars" and or "lab created meat" and look what else is happening. At your own risk of course.
    Get those conspiracy wheels turning.

We’ve done it many times over the past decades actually. It’s not new. That’s why I’m just shaking my head in disbelief at the idiocy of the ceo. The science and engineering is done and tested. He chose to ignore it to save money and cost 4 people their lives.

Is there any actual pics of the wreckage from submarine? Not that i care to see it, but how do you verify death of billionaires with hundreds of millions in insurance payouts?

No bodies, no wreckage, lost at sea, it just went boom and disappeared. How does that work for life insurance payouts on billionaires?

I see both sides - the ego, arrogance and sheer lack of self awareness of billionaire individuals and a company who do not go through the proper channels to ensure safety is mind boggling to me. Bypassing proper credentialing and certification is a recipe for disaster. Play stupid games and get stupid prizes…..

However they’re still human beings - fathers, brothers, sons, uncles, friends. And no matter how dumb I may consider it, they’re still gone and loved ones lives are shattered. Perhaps they all were willing to take the risk, said their proper goodbyes, etc. But that doesn’t make it any less sad

I think they identified the nose cone and the tail. They are sending unmanned submersibles down to collect what’s left.

There is probably not much left, I mean carbon fiber shattering and being entombed is some janky sub at the bottom of the sea is pretty much their burial ground... This will probably update life insurance policies, waiver says you unalived yourself we're not paying. If you've followed forest disappearances, then presumed dead is enough for the insurance company to pay out anyway. Some people have never been found, but still get paid out...

They interviewed the 19 year olds Aunt and she said the kid was terrified to go but it was Father's Day weekend and his rich father has been fascinated with the Titanic since he was a young boy so the 19 year old went to please his father.

With all of the exposure it is looking exactly like that and very embarrassing for the company. It is a fine line, the 'customers' wanted to go and nobody made them. I would think they signed documentation relieving the company from any responsibility but still I would be willing to believe they were told the equipment is fine and has made the trip many times. What a cluster...

Bruh, without even a single Google search, all I can imagine mishmashing these headlines together is that - my god, they're using a 6.2bn investment in submarines to turn people into lab-grown meat - soylent green at sea!

Why do billionaires need tax payer funded stadiums for their sports teams? Why do billionaires takeout insurance policy on WTC for terrorism 2 months before 911? Why do billionaires get us into fake wars so their oil companies steal natural resources from other countries?

Bless your heart if you actually think billionaires don’t need life insurance policies.

Remember, it's not what you're being told that's important. It's why they want you to believe it that's important.

If it's all true, the billionaires certainly weren't acting like smart billionaires. (And you generally don't get to be a billionaire by being dumb.) And their families are mourning and deserve condolences.

I agree with the other comment: what else is going on right now that that the masses should be focusing on, but instead are being told this?

    Fake news is still around...!

“If it bleeds, it leads” has always been the mantra for news. They are driven by advertisements. Advertisers pay based on the size of the audience.

This story is making all of the headlines because it’s what people want to read, not because there’s some crazy conspiracy to cover up the fact that Aliens put fluoride in our water to make us believe every fictional story we are told by some laptop jockey working out of his mom and dad’s basement baiting people to click on links. If you don’t like hearing about tragedy and would rather hear about what is happening in the government, tune into CSPAN or one of those Supreme Court live feeds.

The military, believe it or not, tries to err on the side of caution when it comes to anything that might affect our National Security. They heard something that sounded like an implosion around the time it went missing. They didn’t report it to mainstream news because they were 100% sure that it was the Titan. Imagine if they reported that it imploded without absolute proof and it turns out it didn’t. 4 months later some Canadian kid is drinking bagged milk near the ocean and sees the Titan wash up with a bunch of oxygen deprived corpses inside.
