This reminds me of an issue with the Honda Pacific Coast motorcycle where if parked in just the right or wrong orientation on a sunny day the windshield would act at a magnifying glass and melt areas of the plastic dash underneath the windshield. It was so common that it was hard to find one of these bikes that didn't have melted streaks on the dash.

    **UPDATE**

sorry for the delay, however worth it. Toyota has come out and said that it is officially a “known issue to them” and they are going to replace the seat backs for free/ under warranty.

I have been going back-and-forth with the service department and the turning point was the service tech actually calling Toyota directly to speak with someone. Not just going through the website. Once he talk to someone at Toyota directly, it became apparent that is a well-known issue that they are trying to get to the bottom of. My dealership has ordered new seat covers to replace mine and will be installing them July 1.

I strongly encourage anyone else with this issue to push your service tech to call Toyota directly. If they still are giving you pushback, find my service guys (Kevin)number, posted his business card higher up in the feed and have your service tech call him directly for help on it. Don’t let them tell you this is not a known issue.

just got Toyota to admit it’s a known issue and they are replaced it. You have to get the service tech to call Toyota to speak to someone- nothing is in the computer data base yet. If they are still having issues, have him reach out to Kevin at my dealership for help. Toyota ordered me new seat covers and are going to install for free

That is good news but did Toyota ever say what was causing the seat backs to melt like that in the first place? I am just wondering what is preventing it from reoccurring again after the new seat covers are installed or to owners that don't have this problem yet if they need to do something to prevent it from happening.

from what I gathered from my service advisor, they’re trying to figure that out. They requested that I submit details about where the truck is primarily parked. How the sun is hitting the truck. The weather environment it is in and things like that. My assumption would be somethings occurring during production, but I think they’re trying to look for the source elsewhere.

I wonder if possibly during the 'chip shortage', etc. (when countless new vehicles were sitting for months on end out in the elements) certain vehicles may have sustained prolonged exposures to certain angles and such in relation to the sun and how they were parked that led to the issue. I believe many vehicles from various manufacturers were being delivered w/surface rust and such from the amount of time they spent out in the elements waiting for chips, port installed parts, etc....

Purchased the truck on Jun 10, 2023, modifications will be made!
Others mentioned it but my money is on a slight defect in the back window glass creating a lens effect and focusing sunlight to the point it gets hot enough to melt it.

Has this happened to anyone who has tinted their back window?

I agree. If that were burnt from the sun, defroster, or anything else, you would have smelled it

Hopefully something gets done. You never know, that one Toyota engineer says the wind noise is a non issue, and Toyota isn't doing anything about it cuz of lack of data, even though we got dozens and dozens of diff posts of ppl stating wind noise issues/concerns. 3 reports here vs dozens of wind noise concerns, wish Toyota can already start addressing issues instead of dodging

That is crazy. I just checked mine [Feb, 22 build] and do not see that kind of damage. Maybe a bit of color fade but nothing like your seeing. That looks like a burn of some sort for sure.

If this happened in the vehicle since ownership, sun or defroster, it surely would give off a very strong odor. Has to be happening at factory. ** I sure appreciate this thread ** I will inspect mine closely whenever it finally arrives.

Quick update. Tuesday the dealer swapped out my back seats to fix this issue. Thats the good news. The bad news is, the truck conveniently came back with a rear door ding and a tool left under by back seat

It’s a bigger issue then Toyota thinks. The problem is, most owners probably never move their backseats.

Reason #50 why this new Tundra is an ugly pos failure.
This new Tundra model forum is riddled with issues and complaints, so unlike normal Toyota design.

Yall should own your mistake and sell these pos trucks and go back to the good old 2.5 gen lol.

Toyota needs to be taught a lesson to listen to their customers!

First I would like to say that everyone is entitled to their opinions or give warnings to others based on known experiences. I don't even have my 3rd Gen yet and I have been reading and watching this forum and others for months now before even deciding to put a down payment on my new truck. Nothing is perfect and some dealerships and or vehicle manufacturers are better than others. From my perspective, I think there is more creditability if you are an owner of a 3rd Gen if you want to bash it. It's easy to bash other peoples stuff but if you have a vested interest in what you own then your perspective changes. You either have to work to get it to where you want it to be or if that does not work for you then just get rid of it and move on. Just my opinion. Thx.

So far, I've had less issues with my 2023 than I had on my 2014 at the same point in ownership.

2023 has been great, my 2014 had the entire infotainment go out within 300 miles.

I must be an outlier in your stats.

I haven’t had a single problem and it’s a sweet rig, more power, much more and lower torque , rides better, higher payload , higher towing, more comfort in every way

    so I couldn’t disagree more

    To each their own guys.
Not every truck is the same or bad, I know.

I was being overly dramatic, sorry.

I'm just so mad at Toyota for this new truck, and I wish yall would not buy it so Toyota learns their lesson and does a 180.

To those highlighting your gains over the 2.5gen, yes, you got gains, very tiny minuscule ones, for way more money, more headaches, less reliability, and just you wait till it's outa warranty and you have turbo issues.
I've owned turbo sports cars, your in for a world of hurt $ wise.

But if your happy, then I'm just a jerk, carry on men (and women)

have you even driven one for any amount of time?

obviously you have made you your mind, thats fine.

and not that it matters, but as an owner of every tundra gen ever made, I can tell you this one is really nice.

just took it for my first longer drive road trip and wow , mush less fatiguing and WAY more comfortable, while I don't really give a shit about MPG, I saw 20 mpg for the first time ever in a tundra, which is easily 5 more than I ever saw in my last one all while feeling like it has much more power and passes super easy etc.

the new platinum interior is tits, doesn't have 15 different mis matched materials, the 10 speed is awesome, cooled seats actually work, and on and on.

so I don't want Toyota to do any 180s , they did a great job IMO

I have driven a couple but not for any length of time really.

To each their own you do you!

I don't have any of your complaints about my 2.5gen especially not my 1794 seats, they are the best thing I ever sat in, in a truck.
My mpg is abysmal, my dad's rust colored 2014 1794 edition got 17-20mpg, these trucks have wildly inconsistent mpg.

My truck passes everything like its standing still except real sports cars, and beast mode makes it even more awesome.

Eventually I'll add the supercharger and really start kickin names and takin ass!

    Lots of stuff!
I saw an ad the other day stating the Toyota is the "longest lasting brand"! I was wondering if the new Tundra was included in the metrics to determine that piece of marketing. :)

The ad didn't say that it was the best looking brand! ;)
