Does Missouri heavily salt their roads? If not, you could probably buy a good used heavy duty truck and trailer for 35k, load your stuff, drive east, unload your stuff and sell thr moving rig for a profit.

    Why yes they do. LOL

Not as heavily as they do up north, but yeah they salt their roads.

I get that they are offering moving assistance. Pocket the money they offer you...or buy that SC for the V8. :D

When an employer reaches out to you like that and maintains communication with you during the waiting period before your hired its always a good sign pf the climate and type of people youll be working with. My current supervisor reached out to me right after the second interview to ask me a question...pretty much gave away I had the job. He kept contact with me the entire time until I was on deck. I knew where'd I'd be working who I'd be working with and what everyone looks like before I showed up. I hope you enjoy your new postion as much as I'm enjoying mine.

Moving sucks no matter what way you slice it. It was still a PIA when we moved from NC to TX and that was full service. That being said, a full service move will save you (and your back) especially on the VA side unless you have some friends/family in the area.

Lots of options for sure. Where in VA are you landing?

    YES!
Moved from Southern to Northern CA. Rented for a year. Bought a house and moved again over 4 week period. Have the garage left to move this weekend. Luckily this time it's only 3 miles.

    I hope I will, I think so. :)

Well yeah, I'm not trying to imply that moving is fun. And I hope they do the full-service thing. But if not, we're prepared to get rid of damn near everything except our beds, dishes and clothes, and tools, and buy new stuff there, and do the PODS move.

I'll be working @ Dahlgren, so probably something like King George, Port Royal, Colonial Beach, etc.

Love it when this place is like a big family, offering advice/options/UN-solicated advice... but you get the idea.
So much so that it reminds me of Anthony about his son.....it really came together and it surprised me.

AND, not to mention about pushing more mods....more mods..... MORE MODS!!!!!

Congrats on the "Offer" and good luck..

    We know a couple of folks who crossed the country for re-locations and they used these guys ;

    ABF Transportation | U-Pack (upack.com)

One used their 28' trailer and loaded at his leisure and the others used their containers...

I have always paid the freight to move us up & down the EastCoast and U-Haul has been my go to recently..even on the "Local Runs"

    Again , Good luck :hattip:

Well, so far, it's almost like the Man Himself is arranging things. In the last week:

    - relocation assistance approved
    - neighbors are buying our house as-is at asking price :eek2:
    - friends/family/neighbors have out of nowhere asked if they can buy most of our furniture
    - same friends/family/neighbors are helping us throw stuff out, pack, donate, etc.

So what I thought was going to be a major PITA evolution (and it still will, to some degree) has been made a ton more manageable. :)

Right! But seriously, some of them are indeed buying things. Most of the stuff we have we got for free/cheap anyways, even high quality stuff (e.g., a $3K Vidmar cabinet for $300), so I'm fine if I don't make tons of cash. :)

Ha! I've had some offers, but being as I'm using that to pull a 14' trailer, I sorta need that.

I have people that would come to the house to quote/check things (roof and electrical stuff) and offered to buy the 2021 cash.... no thanks.

We would recommend PODS. We used a POD for stored stuff and non essentials. You will pay a delivery fee for the POD, plus your first month of storage (if needed). You will then pay a per mile fee to your final destination. We thought we were going to store our POD for 90 days, but that turned into 6 months due to construction delays. We used North American Van Lines for the heavy household items (with insurance) and U-Haul for our bed, plants, and non replaceable items (we are super glad we did this).

The U-Haul arrived safely (we drove it) and the POD arrived as we packed it (nothing broken). North American not so. 40% of our items arrived damaged, broken, and/or cracked. You are right, this professional moving service is expensive......in the end after a 60 day fight with the company and their insurance company.......we paid $0 for this service.

Looking back, we would have done PODS all the way and just brought the U-Haul for items we needed right away until the PODs arrived. Be prepared for Post CVD customer service......at least that we call it.

Congratulations and good luck! We are headed to VA in October to see the wilderness color change.

Did something similar from NC to Ohio.

Basically took the “non essentials” (things we could do without for a week and loaded in cubes - and the essentials we put on the moving truck.

Worked ok - saved some cash but keep in mind stuff doesn’t arrive immediately. That’s the big downside - it can take a week or more from pickup to arrival.

As to moving - 3 bedroom house 600 miles quotes were 11k, 10k and 5500. Yes - one reputable mover was HALF the price of others. I still thought that was high - same move 3 years earlier the opposite way was 2800. Diesel is coming down - but pricing isn’t. Kinda like building supplies - raw material cost don’t translate immediately.

Forgot who recommended it, but we've ended up going with ABF (U-Pack). 28' trailer will be parked on our property; our stuff is already half packed and they won't be here until a month from now or so. PODS was going to be like $9K; at most, this will be $4500 or $5K.
