depends really on what you're trying to do with it.
If you need to deep engrave metal, shit gets expensive fast. But I would think something that can etch chocolate could be had for relatively less (under a few $k).

 

@alb1k, who you’ve met (the other awesome 2wd 1st gen) makes some beautiful knives in his spare time and has his logo on them. Way too perfect and detailed for being engraved, so I asked. He then learned me about a process that I still don’t fully understand. I believe you print your image on some type of film, then there is some type of chemical reaction involved. Not good for chocolates I’m sure, but a decent, and for some applications better way to etch metal surfaces.

It's not unlike how microchips are made...
