i guess if they REALLY want to go to the zoo then go, but there's so much more fun stuff to do around balboa park.

ballast point is garbage. don't waste your money!

Agreed on Ballast Point. Downtown SD is not much (except traffic), so I wouldn't spend much time there except for the Midway and perhaps Star of India. You could take in the scenic views and tidepools in Point Loma a short drive away. Nearly all of the eateries mentioned are solid. I will add Konitos in Pacific Beach for a hearty and inexpensive breakfast\brunch. We like the Big Breakfast #1 and #2. Do not mistake this for Konos at Crystal Pier(tourist trap and almost always busy). Konitos has a great local vibe, not very crowded and the staff are awesome. From there you are a short drive to the beaches of La Jolla and Mt. Soledad. Also can't recommend the museums at Balboa Park enough.

I like the Fleet Science Center, Art museums, Automotive, Botanical Gardens, Space and Natural History museums. My son and I used to walk (4 miles) to Balboa Park and museums when we lived in the area. I have been to all 7 bridges, just not on the same day. Spruce Street holds a special place for me and I visit often just to hang out and reflect.
Depending on your musical tastes, you could try Taang! Records on 5th, just south of University. Wandered in there one night and got lost in musical nirvana\nostalgia(for me anyway) for a few hours ogling over all the vinyl.

So far just the wire harness to connect the tailgate to the power locks and the bed step.
I recommend visiting the San Diego Zoo as well as all of the Museums in Balboa Park, they are right next to each other. Seaport Village is a waterfront promenade with lots of shops and restaurants which gets you in the area of the Gaslamp District. The homeless problem in Downtown San Diego has improved drastically, I work in Code Enforcement with the homeless and have seen it first-hand. I'm not saying that you won't see any homeless but the tent-lined sidewalks are all but gone. So I highly recommend visiting the Gaslamp District for the bars and restaurants. Old Town San Diego is another fun place to visit. These are all pedestrian-friendly areas so be prepared to do some walking.

P.S. Summer is a great time to visit San Diego to beat the Arizona heat.
