Should I upgrade my 1794 from 2018 to 2023?

Not in the least, Tom.....but appreciate your assessment. There are KNOWN glitches with the software and components of the Gen 3's whether the fanboy's like to admit it or not. I am glad that you have had absolutely no issues with your truck and truly hope it continues that way. But your assessment would mean that the people with turbo issues are somehow operating their trucks in a way to cause the turbo issues.......not true and nothing to do with someone that you don't know being "stupid, lazy or dishonest." In fact, I would prefer people to air their real world experience to a question without providing a "stupid", "lazy" and potentially dishonest answer. He absolutely knows how to set up the cameras and trailer configurations as do I - and it required an ECU flash to fix the glitch. But you must know better as the smartest guy in the room.....

"But each time we have been in the newer tundras (I would guess at least 20 times I have ridden with him), there are issues." EACH time? 20 out of 20? Come on drama queen. If he's not stupid or lazy he's really unlucky.

Bro, you have issues. Each time? Yes.....if it was the phone charger not working three or four times, the camera and trailer issues NEVER worked properly until the ECU flash. SO yeah, bro, EVERY time I was in it there were little things (or big) that were not working properly on a brand new 75k truck......try to read and process before you react with vitriol and anger over a forum post. Life's too short man.

If you like your truck, keep it. Especially if you've paid it off. I get wanting to have new and shiny, but there is a satisfaction with an older paid for vehicle. Years ago I drove a "cash car camry" and put a label on the dash (yes it was a POS) that read "this car is free". I drove it until it didn't make sense to keep it running. The new Tundras have grown on me from my initial impressions and if I win the TRD Pro Texas Parks and Wildlife is raffling off I'll be sure to let you know. Until then I have a reliable family hauler that is also capable of playing in the mud and on trails that I love driving.

Do what is right for your budget, priorities, and peace of mind.

I’m with you here as I would like to just see some kind of acknowledgment that they actually know what’s causing the failures and are working to resolve it before I’d purchase one.

Following the Facebook groups I see far more failures on there than on this forum, and when you go to the comments you see other people chiming in with comments like “it happened to mine last week” kind of responses. Every week the “it’s a small early production batch” explanation seems more and more unlikely.

I’ve seen more engine failures in the 22+ page since March then I’ve ever seen in the 5 other tundra pages Ive followed for years which includes quite a few older high mileage trucks. Just saw a fresh one today in fact. These posts were never commonplace on tundra pages prior. The conversation always pivots to, “well it’s less than 1% failure rate”. I suppose that may be true, and maybe that’s acceptable to some but it’s definitely not the norm for tundras in the past.

I don’t say this as a 2nd gen owning “troll” either. I may not be in the market for a new tundra but I could definitely see getting a sequoia as a new family vehicle in the coming years. I definitely don’t wish failure upon the platform, but I wouldn’t feel comfortable buying one until there is more transparency in the bearing issue particularly.

The advance pack is shocks and air bags and some other dewy thing. If you go TRD off Road , the TRD shocks will eliminate the advance pack option by default. You can still bag it just wont be OEM

Your motto is tech is garbage. You hang out and post on forums where you have no intent of buying. You comment on business practices you're not involved with. That's not a troll?

I had to fight back the dealer who took my deposit for the last year of V8 Sequoia and decided to give me a V6 Sequoia. Though I honestly hate the look of old Sequoia and generally like the look of a new one, this will be our family vehicle for wilderness trips, so it has to be darn bulletproof. Having a main bearing failure in a place where you need to wait for couple of days for help to arrive after pressing a satellite SOS, with the three kids, youngest is 1 - eh... And anyways the rescue team will only rescue poor meat bags, not the 3 ton SUV. It is literally can be cheaper to push it into the boonies and be with it.

If you saw the equipment I work on, the “ones man tech is another man’s garbage” …motto?…would make a whole lot more sense. Take a look inside a VRF condensing unit and you wouldn’t know where to start. It’s more in regards to that stuff then vehicles, but now even vehicles are following suit unfortunately. Either way, I don’t have to explain anything to you. In general, tech IS garbage.

I thought this is called a potential buyer feedback? If you dislike something, why can't you say it publicly? Maybe Toyota will collect enough of such feedbacks and address the issue in the future, turning a "troll" into a buyer?

I was first in line for a 2022 Limited Hybrid 6.5 foot box with Off-road package. About the time the truck shipped I bailed. I wasn’t concerned about reliability new model problems etc. I didn’t feel the value was there at 61K!
I spent a fair amount of time and 4-5K in mods to my 2013 and it just didn’t seem like a worthy upgrade to me? And “my opinion” the front of the 3rd gen has to have color matching grille surround and a high clearance bumper to clean up that front end. So another 3k out of the gate? You and everyone else have different reasons, wants, needs etc. Do what you want!

FWIW I just put a deposit on a 2024 TRD off road hybrid Tacoma because that’s what I want!

If you look at a VENN diagram of who Toyota cares about, legacy trolls aren't in it. They are designing for different constituencies of customers.

Forgive my intrusion but last time I checked this is an enthusiasts' forum, not verified owners forum.

Hell, half the staff don't own Tundras anymore but are still enthusiastic about them. Suggesting another member shouldn't post his/her opinion or experience because it differs from yours is one step away from a red armband, tbh.

Yes, but they will get a RAM, because it looks cooler, it is nicer inside, it is more capable out of the box. And it seems it is more reliable as of now.

I moved to Toyota from Volvo. Can tell Lexus has a hard time competing with Volvo in terms of appearance, materials and comfort. Premium Toyota's trim is laughable, can't even place it in one sentence with Volvo. But I still moved, because shitty engineering does not appeal to me anymore. Toyota decided to move to shitty engineering - its VENN diagram is free to protrude in any direction away from my cash.

RAM down 17% YoY. Flooded with inventory. Great discounts.
Tundra up 20-30% YoY based on the reporting period. Inventory improving but as the OP said, he can't find one to test drive.

I was on the same boat as you per se. I leased a 2020, the lease is up this July. All the dealer was offering was $650 lease for a SR5. In in a nice way I asked them WTF are you and Toyota smoking. So I am currently buying out my 2020 till this insanity comes back to somewhat normal. There is nothing in the 22+ SR5 that makes it $11-12k more than my SR5. But if they wouldn't be so greedy and not have marked it up so much then I would have leased the new tundra. For me the shinny new toy appeal last all of 2-3 months and then you realize it just a bunch of metal on 4 wheels that gets you from point a-b. I will eventually move over to the 3rd gen since I can't keep my trucks for too long but not right now, the trucks not worth the dealers asking price.

I don’t disagree, my point was that I work in a tech heavy field and can say with certainty that tech isn’t so great. Everything lasts about 1/3 to 1/2 the time that it used to before it is obsolete and/or not worth repair. It also is significantly more expensive to repair, install, troubleshoot and maintain. I still see equipment running fine from the 1980s, meanwhile the stuff installed after 2010 is already trash.

My dealer has about 10 of them. One of them is a 22. All S.FLA dealers have stock.

Same here. I was surprised the OP couldn't figure out how to test drive one due to availability.
I assume you're seeing the same thing on F150's and RAM's? I had the data on their days of inventory and it has really grown. My local Ford dealer has gone from having 15 F150's last July when I bought to 75 now.
The Tundra I bought about a month ago and just picked up was $5500 off MSRP IIRC. I can get the same truck for $6K off now.

Agree with you on the don't buy if it's not worth it to you. I had intended to keep my other truck a long time but had to return it.

Haven't paid attention to any other brand for the last 10++ years. I had my fun with a Chevy Silverado SS and 3 Trailblazer SS. Lost interested in making them go fast, heavy pigs=lots of money for speed. I stick to Jap cars now, mainly Toyota and Honda. But I will say I have seen a couple of commercials of the BIG 3 advertising big incentives and financing offers. Still these post Covid 1/2 trucks are insanely priced. I have seen, as I am sure you have, $100k Tahoes and what not. The payment on some of these new vehicles is more than my mortgage payment.

It is insane. The F150 I paid $68K for 7/22 is now $75K and is missing some of the features.
I was so burned I drove everything twice. The Denali with a roof and all the BS on it was close to $90K out the door.
