Whatever this forum told me to do
Gas is cheap presently because we are draining the SPR.

once we have to start filling it....hunker down.

EV's last >200k miles. just like ICE vehicles.

our EV just charged a whole "tank" in 8 minutes @ a 250k supercharger.

We bought the Tesla for the sole reason of it being fun + technologically advanced + it will whip a Porsche 911 Turbo s EVERY time.

i would not use an EV as a primary vehicle. I drive a '20 Tundra. I need a truck for work & EV trucks can't do truck things.

    Too many, but not enough....
It is. Especially with some California Gravy on it. That is my wifes favorite combo right there.

During the pandemic, I bought and sold stock of this lithium-ion battery recycling and primary battery metal extraction company...https://americanbatterytechnology.com/

I haven't followed them in a while and don't know if they are already operational or still building their facility in Nevada.

You're right - I recall reading about this in the past. Found Tesla's 2022 Impact Report that states 92% of LION battery materials are fully recovered, and the other 8% reused in some manner.

    https://www.tesla.com/ns_videos/2022-tesla-impact-report.pdf

That being said, Tesla's transparency is far above any other auto manufacturer I'm familiar with. I'm genuinely curious how this compares with recycling rates for traditional auto manufacturers.

And even if they aren't reclaiming 100% of base materials from LION batteries, none of them (that go through Tesla - I'm sure some are scrapped) are being discarded.

And yet you bring no proof of anything. Simply making a statement does not make something true. I can back up everything I've claimed with evidence. Can you?

I can also show you the Jr. Highschool level math proving the cost of ownership statement..

I'm open to discuss further if you want to make a pointed comment or a specific challenge to my claims. =]

Either good will prevail, or evil will kill most of us and enslave the rest.

Inflation will drive prices of everything up until people realize banksters are not your friend. And banksters own most corporations and politicians.

I'd rather take my chances in this world of insanity with my tank, aka, Tundra, than an EV any day.

Good that Tesla reuses old yet alive batteries, but the recycling problem is not solved. In 10 years, when Powerwall degrade to non-usable state, what they going to do with them? The other problem with the recycling is a known fact that the li-ion technology is not the best, a better ones are coming. Investing billions into developing a recycling technology and building plants just to recycle a limited supply of existing batteries is a bad investment. Not sure what happens about that, I think it's a government problem (which means it will rob all of us, again).

Volvo is pretty good at the environmental safety. They use biodegradable plastics for a couple of decades already, and that's why I hate them ;) It takes tremendous effort to keep my old Volvo stinkiness and, heh, gooeness under control. I much prefer an old good ecowoe plastic, which does not disgust people and let them owning a vehicle for 2 or 3 decades without vomiting every time they think they may need to use a vehicle. Also Volvo claims to become carbon neutral soon and circular (reuse everything) shortly after. Volvo is switching to EV in rush, btw.

Volvo is a great company and is behind the Polestar EV if I recall correctly.

I hadn't thought this far into the recycling issue, but you bring up good points. Maybe we can shoot it all into the sun with the tons and tons of spent nuclear fuel we have lying around. Seriously though, it is a problem I hadn't considered. Just one more instance of us shitting where we eat, I suppose.

I love my Tesla. I purchased it specifically for the continuous OTA tech updates, and to zip around as not many can touch it off the line without having to have a heavily modified vehicle they have spent thousands on tuning. I didn’t purchase it for the world; although it is nice having into spent $154 to run it in over a year.

this is with 4 TX size adults in the car.

Tesla Model S. Which 4 door ICE sedan can do that?

Do you think gas stations will eventually add battery swapping facilities as well, like NIO is doing in China?

Before my company relocated we worked next to a company called Wave. They have been working on this tech for quite awhile and have had it deployed in busses throughout the Salt Lake City area, primarily on college campuses.

Not only can you charge vehicles wirelessly, you can potentially do it incrementally at stops (stop lights, signs, etc). You can also capture kinetic energy as vehicles pass over rumble strips and speed bumps and feed that into the system.

At the risk of being labeled a "tree hugging hippy," or worse, I think this tech is pretty amazing.

As I ponder the original question.....

    the answer is no.

I do not think gas will get cheaper. Gov involvement prevents price erosion.

Gas is easy to tax. as will electric charging...the EV charging tax will hit very soon.

I was hoping the recent SCOTUS EPA ruling would open up present restrictions. we will see.

my only quandary is...these types of companies are "generally" funded with Gov grants.

    like windmills & solar.

the free market is not funding any these initiatives. ponderous.

...and don't get me lathered up over EV tax credits
