Last gen Tundra's are solid as a rock 99% of the time and look awesome.
They just drink fuel like it's free, especially mine, 11.5 mpg around town hurts....7.5mpg towing a 16ft cargo trailer with about 5k in weight sucks even more.

New Tundra is ugly as crap, gets no better mpg, has minimal more hp/tq, has a car engine that costs a fortune to maintain and repair, is smaller inside, with a higher price tag, and a laundry list of new model issues that were all self-inflicted trying to reinvent the wheel that wasn't broken.
You wouldn't catch me dead in one of those things.
If you gave me one, I would list it for sale before the words "it's yours" finished coming out of your mouth.
I laugh when I cruise past one in my 1794 v8 with dual exhaust roaring real engine noise.
You don't even get the Tundra wave, sorry.

Toyota made a huge mistake with this new truck, just like they did cavorting with BMW to make a pretend Supra that's actually a BMW z3 pos.

The more you knuckleheads buy and justify Toyota's Tundra mistake, the more they will be confused into thinking they made the right move, which is ruining the truck market for the rest of us in the future.

The Tundra only needed an updated interior, better mpg, a trans with more gears, and a diesel option.
It would have set the truck world on fire if they had done this.
Instead, they created a frankenturd with a car engine and a Honda Ridgeline body.

To get back to your original question, no, no issues and im at about 20k miles. Tows like a dream and super smooth power band. The transmission has been excellent and smooth.

I personally dont care about the 'v8 sound' and am super happy with my more efficient, quieter, and more power TTV6.

Lastly, if you stick to your <100k miles philosophy, just get the 100k warranty and never have to worry about a thing. I got 120k warranty just for piece of mind with a new gen and havent looked back.

    You will love it!

You’ve answered your question, bud. It sounds like you should look for a truck with a v8.

Have you done any tuning on the Ford? A couple of my buddies have the 5 Star Tuning on their Tremors and it really helps smooth that beast out (especially that 10 speed).

Even Ford is smarter than Toyota. The best-selling truck for several decades has been the F150. Yet when Ford comes out with an "all new" F150 every-so-many years, you can't distinguish one from another by the exterior. Ford knows better than to "radically redesign" a popular, successful, recognized, unique truck design!

Toyota had a fantastic-looking, great-sized, all-around nice truck in the 2/2.5 Gens. They blew it "looks wise" with the radical re-design.

Even GM and Ram are slow about changing their exteriors. It's kind of like the Bud Light thing: you gotta take care of your core market first and foremost! And radical change can produce radically-negative results.

The new Tundras are not flying off the lots. They've got stiff, proven competition...that quite frankly look better.

Figures. Bummer. They are still pretty good stock. We took a tremor F350 on a mountain vacation over a week and a arranged 16 mpg with that beast. Blew my mind.

This has turned into another one of those threads.

Maybe the gen 3.5 will fix everything with a V7?

truck failure and the woke society bitching a lot are 2 different things. My favourite was the guy posting his seat creaks , then later reveals he is 260 pounds? Is this really the seats fault or even worthy of a post ? Lose some weight tubby

Got 15k on my 2023 SR model. Drivetrain is excellent. Some fit and finish “teething” issues with this gen in my experience. But not going to leave you stranded, I would say the drivetrain is the strong point of this truck. That and the plastic bed if you use it as a “truck”.

The boys at Juggernaut could make an awesome tune for this beast.

That Godzilla is like an LS7, but for men. That tune would make the shifts butter smooth paired with a Ratio Tek shift kit, you’d be in business. Did I mention a 30% additional clamping force.

You must not have driven or towed with the new engine. Minimal amount more torque

Or looked at the fuelly estimates and the 22% better mpg, which by all accounts is significantly better.

    Making things up is fun.

There are ALOT of big and tall big dudes that drive a full size truck or SUV out of necessity. I work with a guy that is 6 10 and weighs 300 lbs. If you are a truck company and you only design for average people you are marketing and product planning idiots.

Where I work the past owner/president bought a new 2022 911 turbo s convertible , the active aero faulted out 100 miles on the odometer. Dealer said he outside the 30 mile limit to come pick it up....He paid cash! His new Mercedes also had active suspension failure dealer cannot fix it........

I’m seeing closer to 15% difference in fuel economy which the savings is fully negated if you put in 91 octane which looks like it’s probably a good move based on the smoked main bearings we’ve seen.

you happen to forget the 2023 that’s at 17.3, and then all the ones before 2021 that are like 13.8?

Yep - we should compare a sample size of hardly any to trucks that are 15 years old. That’s more accurate.

I've read a lot of the 2.5 gen threads and have yet to read one that said...had the truck for less that 10k miles, dash lit up like a christmas tree, truck lost power, towed to dealer, needs a new engine, might be months, they gave me a Tacoma loaner...

    :notsure:

I'm sure Toyota will sort the issues with the 3rd gen. I am just shocked that they are having so many issues with an engine that's been in production in the Lexus line since 2017. I'd have assumed they would have the bugs sorted already.

I'll give them a pass on weather seals and wind noise due to all new construction growing pains.

I wouldnt put a lot of weight into Fuelly numbers as you have zero idea how these people drive? Slow like granny or floored at every green light. You need to make your personal fuel log

According to Fuelly, 3rd gen overall fuel economy is 16.7 (combining averages for ‘22 and ‘23).

    Likewise, 2.5 gen (‘14-‘21) overall is 13.9.

Less than 3 mpg difference between the two isn’t changing anyone’s life.

3rd gen is more powerful and fuel efficient at the expense of being far harder on itself. 2nd gen has a very long, very strong dependability record. Do what you want, I think they’re both great trucks.
Fuelly paints a far more accurate picture than manufacturer advertised EPA numbers.

I don't see the point. It's the same company with the same tolerance standards sourcing parts from the same global suppliers. The engine is probably assembled in the same facility and shipped.

Every truck/car/boat/couch is designed for the average person. My 5'4 wife can barely touch the pedals in my 1794, does she bitch about it ....NO, she understands she is short. I am 6'5" (all legs )200 lbs. I fly economy I am a cramped mess, do I bitch about it....NO. I understand I am not average dimensions. Going on line wanking about it like you just did solves nothing. Your 6'10" pal needs to go and have the seat remounted. Takes NOTHING......or just let you bitch about it from your keyboard......which spins me right back to the woke society LOL

It’s not. An example: the V35A-FTS turbos for the Tundra and Sequoia are made here by IHI America under license from IHI Japan (which manufactures the turbos for the V35A-FTS engines that go in the MIJ LC300/LX600).

The turbo issues for this engine seem to be largely concentrated in vehicles manufactured here.

What about the short blocks? Spun bearings seem to be an issue too, possibly more so than turbo failure.

You can do a transmission tune only. The skip shifting was one of the features I did not like as well.

I did a transmission tune on my Allison 1000 and it was definitely worth it.
