I recently purchased a 2021 Tundra Limited. It came with raised silver letters on the tailgate. I am not a fan of these badges. Is it possible to remove these without causing damage? Is it just paint underneath these badges? Will the remaining glue damage the paint if I try to remove them? I would really like to buy some of the vinyl stickers and make them black instead of the raised silver. Thank you.FE953C1C-3358-447A-A3D2-D65C666591C7.jpg

    They can be removed.

You can use floss,,, or solid braid fishing line. With one end in each hand and a loop over the said piece in a saw motion they will come off. I have always used polish to remove stickers or the tape, others say goo or what ever car gunk remover you can get to remove the stickem left over. Patience and being careful works fine. A few threads have been started concerning this.

Those are after market stick-on letters and should be removable without damage to the paint. Use a little help from a heat gun to help soften the adhesive and make the letters a bit flexible. Use your fingernail or a round edged plastic scraper to lift a corner and continue to pull. Any adhesive still there after the letters removed can be cleaned off with the correct solvent

I took all the badging off my Winnebago Travato with citrus oil and dental floss. Just let that goof off soak into the glue for a long time.

Hair dryer and patience, then apply the black aluminum version. That way glue residue won't matter and it will look great!

I like the idea of black aluminum. Where is the best place to pick them up?

Thanks! I am very excited to have one now and looking forward to making changes to it to suit my style. Just did the Plasti dip black out on the side badges and it turned out great. It will look even better once I get rid of the awful silver letters in the back.

The braided fishing line trick works awesome on anything with adhesive tape on it. Been doing that for years.

IMG_1209.jpg I followed everyone’s advice and was able to get them off easily this morning. They were not on really tight, so I was able to peel them off with minimal amount of adhesive left. I used Goo Gone to get rid of the rest of it. Now I just have to decide whether I want raised or flat black letters. Thanks all.

Another option would have been to PlastiDip them black and leave them on. When dry, the PlastiDip will peel off up to the lettering.

I did that with the side badges and they turned out great. But I do not like the texture of the ridges on the old letters which is why I removed them.
