Saw the all new Lexus GX release and wondered if I really wanted to keep my truck 'forever" .

Lexus killed it with the new GX.

Here's the other thing too... The build on one of those is $10k-$20 less than a sequoia!!!! If you're wanting an SUV that really seems like a no-brainer.

So, just out of curiosity... I also just went and built a full size MBZ AMG, and with a decent amount of upgrades it's in the low 60s :mad::mad:

Hmmmm.... Maintenance on either has always been pricier than a Toyota, but that # is out the window now too. So, if my new Tundra ever needs to be replaced before I do, I may be leaning toward MBZ unless Toyota and the rest of the middle class car market can pull their heads out of their a$$es...
Maybe it's time for us all to start exploring other options... :crapstorm:

Factor in added costs over the life of ownership considering reliability.

My Wife wants to get a new SUV and I like the Toyota Sequoia and the Lexus GX but she also wants to check into the Honda Passport and Acura MDX.
We don't need a huge vehicle, but if it does hold 7 passengers, it is a bonus.
We want something that is reliable and holds its value.
    Any thoughts?

They may both be called SUVs, but they're not remotely in the same category. Body on frame vs unibody. You'll notice the difference. I know my wife would go with a unibody for comfort all day long, whereas I'd go with body on frame for capability. Both brands have great reliability and resale value overall, but I can't say for sure on specific models. I don't know much about the Highlander, but it's a unibody Toyota offering with plenty of seating.

Like @the red said. Hylander just got a nice update and is probably your best bet.

Are you referring to the 2023 or 2024 Highlander?

Finally got around to getting that 3D printed switch insert installed! I should've gone with a semi-gloss or matte paint, oh well, it'll be dusty in no time. Next I'll have to actually run the footwell LED strips and connect those. Someday!

Buy newer than 2020 if you buy a Pilot, or older than 2015. 2016-2019 were hot fucking garbage years for a Honda Pilot. Ask me about how it needed new brakes, rotors, calipers, pads, the works, along with transmission work, fuel injectors, shit electrical work, bad suspension and the rear goddamn hatch rusted inside-out, overall had a bad paint job, even the headunit was straight junk.

Oh that was all before 40k miles. Damn thing wasn't even 3 years old and the rear lift gate was retaining water, rusting from the inside out, and Honda America told me to go pound effing sand, no warranty for you, only thing they didn't charge me for was the software update part of the transmission work (but DID hit me $350 for the needed drain/refill on the fluid) and the fuel injectors that were actually part of a recall.

I had my older 2010 Honda CRV for forever and it's still running great for the friend I sold it to, and was a huge Honda fan, and had such great expectations for the Pilot I bought. It was such a slap in the face to buy that generation Pilot and have such a terrible experience, it still embitters me.

It's a good factor, but we're seeing QC issues now w/the newer Toyota products, and I would never consider trying to own a European past 100k

    This ^^^

My wife went from a Subi to a Honda Pilot; we bought a 2019 4Runner (Limited so it wasn't so off-roady)... she hated it and said it felt like driving my truck after; almost 2 years she was never happy w/it, so she ended up w/another Subi...

If she likes driving trucks, Sequoia or GX are great. But, if she doesn't spending your time finding the right unibody model.

New tires and rims will be showing up in the next week or so.

They will be shipped to me separately.

Do any of you recommend doing something like Dura Coating before installing the tires to the rim and then to the truck? It seems like it would be much easier to do it before than after. Any thoughts?

Also, given the rims will be separate from the tires for a few days, any recommendations on ceramic coating the wheels and what product to use?

As a note, I just ceramic coated the truck but I ran out of product. So I'd have to buy something new.

Haven’t really gotten a chance to mess around with it too much yet, but CarPlay connects quickly and effortlessly upon startup. Really good build quality as well

The factory suspension on a 4Runner leaves much to be desired. I flew from Az to Iowa to buy a 2021 because the prices were so stupid high in AZ and drove it home. It was like driving a toy compared to my Tundra and every time you hit the brakes it felt like the rear end was coming to come over the top. Admittedly I was moving to make it home in 2 days and mission was accomplished.

Once I put the Icon suspension on it was a totally different vehicle
