I searched here and struck out. Please forgive if this has been answered before...

I'm planning a power run from the battery to the tailgate; 10 AWG. Everything I've heard is to try and follow factory wiring harnesses when doing something like this. So, I crawled under yesterday and I find several factory harness runs along/on-top of the passenger side frame, (including one DIY I did for a trailer camera and aux. backup lights) but none along/on-top of the driver's side frame. It seems, to my eyes anyway, that the driver's side cats are closer to the frame than the passenger side cats. Is this why Toyota didn't run any electrical (not that I can see on my 2020, anyway) back to the bed on the driver's side?

It would be a much shorter run, and easier, if I could go direct from the battery down the driver's side frame. Taking the cats into account, would it be okay if I did?

I ran wiring along the driver side for my rear pods. No issues for me.

Mine is more outboard of the frame between side steps and frame area. I also put the run in some loom wire tubing with zipties and called it a day.

Thank you! Yes, I was thinking the same, esp. by the cats, to loom and zip on the far side of the frame from the cats.

I'm wanting to install bed lights, and I'm calculating 4-5 amps for those. I'll use a relay tapping into factory cargo light wiring as the trigger. Terminating the 10 gauge wire to a distribution block hidden behind the taillight, so I can add pod lights in the future without running wire again.
