I'm surprised that even though you have a current building permit for your dwelling, that doesn't give you 18-24 months to live in a TT temporarily while the construction takes place. Even in California, Los Angeles county, is okay with that. Sounds like your piss poor neighbors, stirring the pot, are the root of your headaches. Good luck.

I'm sure the neighbors will be much nicer once you're finished and moved in :)

Yes, the neighbors had voluntarily granted me an easement across their property to access my lower property. I gave them an easement in gross for just them to use a riding arena on the lower part of my porperty which they immediately violated by bringing friends, extended family and neighborhood kids with them. I'd told them several that the easement was just for them but as they'd volunteered the easement I hesitated to be to forceful about it.

Then in June of 2022 my insurance company declined to renew insurance on vacant properties in the area due to fire hazard. I informed my neighbors that they had to abide the easement agreement so now they want my access easement back. It was signed, notarized and filed with the county so it's on their title now. They're saying that I've been harrassing and menacing them as the tactic to make me give up the easement. They are liars and a$$holes.

Backfill on the roof? Are you living in the side of a hill?

My site is cut into a saddle on the high point of my property. Earth Sheltered means covered in earth. My excavation goes down about 18' and there will be a 24" footing with about 15" of framing. The ceiling of the lower floor will be at grade and the upper floor will be covered in decomposed granite which is what my soil is composed of.

At about 5" below grade the temps stay at about 40 Degrees F so I will only have to heat up from that temp and in summer it should be nice an cool. There's a 10' diameter cupola at the center (vertex) of the home which will glass walled with skylights on the south side of the roof. I'm installing solar tubes in the upper floor wall which allow light into the lower floor plus the openings of the two annexes will be mostly glass to allow light and enable taking in the view.

My main source of heat will be wood as I have ten heavily wooded acres.

You should've written into "This Old House", I'm sure they'd love to cover your build and maybe get you donated materials. I've never seen this myself.

All you need is a windmill for electricity generation and a well for your water (if you don’t already have one) and you’ll be completely self-sufficient.

There’s a guy in my neighborhood with a camper top on his 1st gen. I’ll try to get a pic for ya later if I can. He leaves it on full time tho, and seems to drive it daily. I’ve never spoke to him so not sure what he’s done to the rear suspension. I imagine stock won’t carry one well. A good buddy of mine has a big one that he stacks onto his Chevy 2500 diesel, and I know he added airbags before ever mounting it. I think it’s close to 5k lbs. tho.
