What have you done to your 2.5 gen Tundra today?

glad to hear that! I took a chance on them since they are the only thing in an SL in that size range, but seems like it should be a solid all around performer.

 

I just picked up recons as well and like them more then ridges already.

 

The RG's have a little better wet traction. I think my next tire will be the Toyo AT3. Much better wet traction.

 

Just got back from a 900-mile round trip to the beach with my family. I got a wild hair and decided to put my stock wheels and tires back on just for the trip. These Michelins, despite being a couple years old, are practically new. After this trip, they have about 3500 miles on them. They're in really great shape. I don't have any problem with the way my truck rides on E load Duratracs. But after putting these back on, the biggest thing I noticed was how much lighter my steering felt. I probably got 2mpg better, which is negligible to me. As for the ride, it just felt floaty. I actually think I prefer the way my truck rides with LT tires, lol. I put my Duratracs back on already.

But this got me thinking, if I don't stick with the Duratracs when it's time for new tires, which is currently what I plan to do, a set of 295/70 Defenders might be nice. Everybody raves about the Defenders.

Switched the wife's 4runner to the defenders because I like the pair that came with my tundra so much. I think they're pretty underrated because they aren't "super cool looking", but they give a great ride. Will definitely be getting them again when I finally run through my stock pair.

Edit: I've also found they wear really nicely. I only have ~25k on mine, but they look brand new. I definitely think that they're the type of tire that are replaced due to age instead of wear, which is another plus.

I agree. Not the "coolest" looking tire but they give a great ride and good in winter (I am in SW Ohio)

 

Our Sequoia has Defenders on them. They are superb tires, very smooth ride. My Tundra came with Goodyear Eagle LS-2's which are a joke compared to the Michellen tires.

Put her second set of shoes on. Went with the same tire only in a 12.5 instead of the 13.5's. I got 43K out of the first set, super happy with them. They did start to get choppy several times but that probably my driving style, just rotated them every 5-8K miles and they flattened out just fine.
First set I got off Amazon, these came from DCT, 1685 OTD with all the roadhazard/replacement stuff

 

we have the LTX Defenders on the wife's highlander. the are quite comfortable, but I can break them loose off the line (FWD) in most conditions.

Here it is: the non-swing swing case. I bought a VEVOR off of ama-schwagg as it had the best reviews. The model that fit the "chevy" was the cheapest. I didn't need the hardware as I was not mounting it to the bed and having it swing. I didn't want to drill into the bed because well I live in salt 6 months out of the year.

This is it in place. Already you can see the Mickey Mouse fabrication that went into this.
T-slot nuts holding it into the rail. I had to cut the sides of the super strut to get the lid to open further. Ooops. Surely there's a saw or some tool to make those cuts easier. Nope just some clamps and an angle grinder with a cutoff wheel.

Lets' get the party started.

So - some super strut on the back wall. Various nuts, washers and bolts to attach the "framework" to the plastic. Please note the precision of the cuts made.

Roll up tool bag and recovery gear going in there. Pretty spacious. Leaves me plenty of room for grocery bags in the underseat storage.

I think this fabrication is worthy of probably getting decorated with some @snivilous speed shop stickers, maybe some @RCIoffroad stickers, etc. The case itself seems pretty sturdy. Good reviews on A-word. I'll probably swap the front flat strap for something a little thicker to give it a smidge more stability/rigidness. A quick 7/16ths hex bolt in the t slots removes everything quickly just in case I need to get some mulch, topsoil, or whatever else I need the whole bed for. I'll likely clean up some of the cuts once I finish "testing" it and driving with it.

Again, it's a turd, but it's a functional turd.

 

Wanted more height so adjusted the Icons...

 

You might want to confirm how much preload you can run. I believe icon has a range on that.

Added a little extra to the Westin winch tray. Going added two amber lights and my house divided plate.

 

Installed 5100s and outer tie rod ends up front, and got an anniversary gift from the wife’s parents.

 

Pops’ been busy tinkering on his rig. Hopefully get his tune updated soon. His truck goes back under the knife for suspension 2.0 in Aug.

Saw the all new Lexus GX release and wondered if I really wanted to keep my truck 'forever" .

Lexus killed it with the new GX.

 

Here's the other thing too... The build on one of those is $10k-$20 less than a sequoia!!!! If you're wanting an SUV that really seems like a no-brainer.

So, just out of curiosity... I also just went and built a full size MBZ AMG, and with a decent amount of upgrades it's in the low 60s

Hmmmm.... Maintenance on either has always been pricier than a Toyota, but that # is out the window now too. So, if my new Tundra ever needs to be replaced before I do, I may be leaning toward MBZ unless Toyota and the rest of the middle class car market can pull their heads out of their a$$es...
Maybe it's time for us all to start exploring other options...
