    That's almost double what I've paid for all six used trucks I've owned combined.
    These new car prices really know how to make a guy feel poor... Or thrifty lol

    I can't believe no one's scooped these 4.56 gears up already...

    Poor dudes been trying to sell em at a very fair price (at a loss) for a long time. He's even slashed the price several times. I wish I needed gears. That's cheaper than I paid for my 4.56's with a 25% Black Friday discount about two years ago.

    Somebody is going to get a screaming deal on these.

    I agree. Here in East TN I can't leave my house without seeing a 1st gen. There are three in my neighborhood alone.

    I would gladly go inspect one for @Jack McCarthy before he flew down. Hell, I might even pick him up at the airport and drink a beer with him.

    Is that the ideal ratio for 33's?

    It's pretty ideal. 4.88 would be faster and higher rpm, torque, but 4.56 is probably better in general for 33

    Yes, it's a little aggressive for 33's, but that's what most people seem to run. I think 4.30 is actually the goldilocks zone for 33's.
    4.56 is in the goldilocks zone for for 35's. People seem to be split on 4.56 vs 4.88 for 35's. The whole power vs economy debate and all.

    I think 4.88 on a 33 is overkill and your highway mileage would suffer more. But you'd definitely have lots of low end power on tap

    I have to agree. have run both 33 and 34 on 4.88. I did enjoy the overkill on 33s while they were on, especially off the line. But I wouldn't go back to 4.56 on the 34s, I'm more of a torque guy in that respect.

    Thanks. So... I'm running 33's with stock gears. Looking at adding a rear locker this summer. If I do gears at the same time, what will 4.56 feel like? Please lmk what I may expect

    during quick acceleration for freeway lane changes to pass;

    driving steep uphill grades on the freeway with the truck loaded;

    running Cinders...

    Sometimes I wish I had geared to 4.88 but then I think about how long I have to drive my truck to wheel... 5hrs usually.
    Hell 20 hrs to T2S.
    The extra low end power would be awesome, but I don't want my mileage to get much worse. Plus with 4wd, 4.56 is just fine. I'd definitely recommend 4.88 to any prerunners wanting to play in the dirt with 33's or 35's, mileage be damned :D

    Probably feel like mine, kinda like stock gears and tires would feel. I do limit my auto shifting more than most when I'm going up/down hills a lot and when it's time to get on it for a hot pass.

    I should've let you drive my truck. It feels good. (Especially now that my rear brakes aren't vibrating lol)

    Definitely feels better on grades than it did with stock gears and 33's.
    Feels great passing at freeway speeds. Even better with the angry exhaust :cool:

    Ok. So I'm probably missing something great, driving as is... but I don't know it because I drove the truck less than 300 miles, all of it short trips, before we modded everything. No idea what it would feel like "stock".

    First gens are slowly becoming obsolete with lack of OEM parts and no aftermarket replacement. I don't want to spend my time searching salvage yards for parts on a regular basis. If I had the space I'd keep mine as a winter only vehicle but that remains to be seen.

    I don't know how far I went before lift and tires, but it was like 3 months. Probably less than 1k miles. I'll never forget the day I brought her home. My buddy lived down the street from the used car lot. So I picked em up for a ride. I was so tunnel visioned because I had found "the one" that I never noticed how bald the tires were... So I stepped on the gas hard as we turned onto hwy6 and fishtailed way harder than I intended. My buddy liked the tundra so much he went out and bought an 01 a few months later.

    Fair point. I'm not sure if I would buy another one or not if something happened to mine. The fact that Denso is now discontinuing parts doesn't help either.

    Deciding between a Ford and a Toyota doesn't seem like a hard decision though.

    Well, the Raptor is in its own separate league and isn’t just a regular truck. It’s resale should be high enough such that if I’m not happy I can trade or sell it. Really depends upon my needs. I may want the extra bed space if I buy a REAL home soon. If that’s the case, the Tundra is better suited.
