    Hello

Have a Gen 1 well serviced 4x. The rear brakes have been adjusted.

What is the fix for the front grabby brakes? The touchy brakes need to go.

Pass on the guess work, looking for experienced wrench heads.

    thanks

When my master cylinder was leaking the brakes were very touchy & would drag.

your front wheels get hot on a short drive?

Pass on the guess work? What else would an online forum be used for?

Just spit-ballin' here, but, I would look into the brake booster...

Not sure if the 2000 model has it or not, as it is present on my '06, but maybe adjust the rear brake proportioning valve?

It has a bracket and link that links to the rear pumpkin from the frame area. The adjustments listed here will bring it to factory spec. This valve is responsible for adjusting brake bias based on the weight you have in your bed. If it's out of spec it could lead to grabby brakes, assuming no stuck caliper or other brake issue.

Ahh - Thanks for the pic. As I don't have the factory book. I will take a peek for that assembly.
Nothing is leaking, everything is in order other than the grabby front.

    Again thanks for the 411

    It's good
That rear prop valve can lead to early lock if over adjusted on the rears. It won't make your front's "grabby"

When one of my calipers was on the way out, it would intermittently stick. Thought I finally got all the air out and had a great pedal, eventually I went to change a the tires and realized it was hanging up the return. Changed and back to the lame pedal.

    Hello

Adjusted the Proportional valve from the photo given (well done grasshopper)..Problem solved.
But the braking is not as crisp as I would like. Everything is stock.

Think I will bleed the system and and see if there is a gain.

Hmm, this is intriguing for me. I had a thread here a month or so ago that I had experienced a smell of burning brakes when climbing a mountain with a trailer on the rear (only 2k lbs or so). I at first feared the trans (but the smell was of brakes), but now I’m wondering if the hill combined with the trailer caused my rear brakes to be dragging? If this valve isn’t adjusted properly?

edit: I was not pressing my pedal, so I’d assume this would be a non-issue. Still, I wonder if something of the shifted truck weight could’ve caused the brake(s) to drag?

    Yah- uh

Curious about your question, as I am trailering 2 mid size bikes from Caif to Wash.

So I want to make sure things are in order if there is anything to your question. Somebody around here must be pulling loads after the valve has been tuned.

Btw I adjusted the rear valve by 1 full rotation of the top bolt (marked its position before the change)
