Only had my Tundra Platinum (2022) for a couple months, so it could be Im doing something wrong. Noticed while returning to my Tundra in a parking lot after a concert that my “locked” truck had the tailgate down? (assuming folks were using it to sit on?) then again recently noticed same thing after returning to my truck after being in a mall for a few hours. Firstly, why is my tailgate Not locking when i lock my truck with my key fob? Secondly, is my tailgate lowering on its own? Anyone else experience this? Appreciate any feedback.

I haven't tried it, but supposedly there is a button on the key fob that will lower the tailgate, possibly the button is being pressed while the fob is in your pocket. And someone else will hopefully chime in, but there is a way to disable the tailgate down button on the fob.

I saw there were some complaints of tailgates opening because the button on the FOB was easy to press when it was in a pocket. My guess would be that your inadvertently hitting the button.

Inadvertently pushing the tailgate release on my key fob totally sounds legit. I will play around with it tomorrow and see if thats what's happening. Just now got to figure out "what the tailgate release button" is on the key fob. Appreciate the help!

Should be like the 3rd button in the pic. If you don't have that it may be that it is just getting unlocked and then people are opening it or bumping the button in the tail light.

I've done this myself with the fob in my pants pocket and bending over while in range.

This would really suck if you park backed up against a guardrail, jersey barrier, your garage or even in a parking lot and a SUV parks behind you ect...
When I got my AJT key fob I cut off the nipple that presses the gate release, this could also be done on factory fob.I think that reaching into your pocket for the fob ( with arms full of shit) to release the gate is more work than the elbow to the tail light,I dunno maybe just me.

The range of those key fobs is not that great and it’s not just a push of the button, it’s a hold of the button. I would bet the tailgate just never got closed by accident

Did you not get an alert on your phone that the tailgate was left open?

Dealer can disable the key fob from dropping the tailgate. You can do it from the Carista app too.

I had the dealer disable mine when I bought the truck after reading about some people having their tailgate drop on accident and dent or scratch the tailgate.

i bought the carista obd2 and app later when the dealer wanted to charge me labor to have the windows open with a long hold of the unlock on the key fob. Also changed some other settings too.

hope you get it figured out.

Totally forgot I programmed my windows to lower until you mentioned this. Ha ha.

must say, I have never had my tailgate come down from accidentally pushing the key fob.
