Is this pop out panel with the two blanks the one that came with your 2005? My 2004 just has a plain pop out. I wish I could find one like yours which accommodates the usb port so cleanly. 20230601_164718.jpg

Yep. My SR5 DC included that panel. Worked out just great.

My limited had this pocket but I bought a sr5 one on ebay with the usb covers( all the junkyards I hit were already swiped when I got there) I also got the usb outlet that fits from Crutchfield and I'm pretty happy with the end result

Well, I did find this panel. Toyota Part#58825-0C021. It's not cheap at $50 for a plastic panel but, I'm very pleased with how it looks. Multiple sources said it was only for the 2005 model but, if you have the full center console in the 2004-06 Double Cab it fits perfectly. 20230611_170806.jpg

    Welcome to the forum!

No, I didn't, mostly because I realized that would be a goddamn near impossible can of worms to deal with. One good look at the two bezels sort of explains it. The only buttons in the same place re the hazard and two HVAC buttons. Later years need the Shift L button which is in the position of the cargo lamp in early years. Early years have the passenger seat belt heyhole where the cargo light should be.

Yeah, it could probably be done but I wasn't willing to mangle my way through it. I know from my wood grain swap that it is murder just swapping out the buttons and smaller bits. I'm not willing to deal with making (esp. the button/keyhole prob) work. And the HVAC controls aren't universal, even across the same years, so that needs swapping too. I may be conflating the problem more than it truly is, because I haven't dug into the electronics side, but getting over the right-hand mold diff'ce for the cargo lamp button will be a big enough challende I didn't want to touch it.

Not saying it can't be done. But I would rather just find the best bezel option that's more to your liking than fight with a mess.

thx @shifty...so, this is the difference between the NEED for ears vs. not [1st pic?] for install of Dbl-DIN HU's?
Altho was a short-lived pipe dream for me, looks like a complication with little RIO...

Yes, look carefully at the box cutout. Note the later years, the box where the screen fits is wide open, the earlier years had a little flange. I'm not sure on the year things changed. I just hit BringATrailer's site to scope out some trucks, and to me, this is what I found:
    • 2000-2002 (AC/RC)had the smaller face opening, and the keyhole for airbag
    • It looks like 2003 (AC/RC) had a larger face opening, and also had the airbag keyhole, at least in AC variety
    • It looks like 2004 DC had larger face opening, but ditched the keyhole, actually has a similar (identical?) button hole layout to the 2005-2006 AC/RC trucks, but there's a mirror heater button in the place where the AC/RC have a blank button, and I'm not sure what the SHIFT L button is on the 2004 DC?
    • 2005-2006 AC/RC/DC potentially all had the same layout overall, big wide opening
Of course, there were still other differences in the faceplates. Like, some trucks had 2WD buttons in the clock area, and even beyond that, some had a VSC ("Auto LSD" button) in the clock area. Some rare trucks had both VSC and 4WD buttons in that area. So it's just wildly variable.

tl;dr - you'd need to do some custom fab if you really wanted to make the change. It's not plug-and-play. Rather than waste the time, I'd personally just get a trim kit from Scosche, Metra, or other. Even if you cut out and ABS-welded in the smaller opening, not only would you need to get the alignment perfect, but you'd also be hitting it with rattle can LVP paint after in matte black to match OEM texture. It's just a hell of a lot of work with, as you mention, limited ROI.
