Finally added the running boards I bought almost 2 months ago...

Before and after -- excuse the desperate need for a wash:

Softopper is definitely something I have on my list. I had one on a Tacoma about 5 years ago and miss it for sure. That and a truck bed mattress and I'll be ready to take my 3 year old on his first truck camping trip!

I tell everyone who’s interested in a soft topper to look at Fas-Top Travel package. Especially for Crewmax’s that have the rear window that rolls down. A tonneau cover and soft topper combo is great to have!

That looks like a pretty sweet option! After having to replace my secondary air injection pump a couple of weeks ago...let's just say I have plenty of time to research all the options before I have the budget to buy a topper, haha.

Got myself a little promotion gift. Idk what Toyota is smoking with the “supplied 14 inch vacuum tube”. Had to run to the parts store but overall I’m stoked on it. Looks tons better than the stock air box.

Well, unfortunately had to spend some $$$ on it this week...

Had the lower oil pan replaced (thank you local dealer for stripping that damn drain plug threads)

...and ended up having to replace the 'D' shift solenoid in the tranny to fix a P0983 code that came up :(

The good news is, it's back to shifting smoothly and running like its old self again. Just prior to the code coming up, I was getting some sloppy shifting in the lower gears and it just wasn't behaving quite right. I was planning on doing a drain and fill to see if that smoothed it out, and at that point I was hoping it wasn't the torque converter going out or the start of a major tranny problem. But, the CIL light came on a couple of days later and it put up the P0983 'D shift solenoid' code. So, we went with the intention to replace that and to do a quick check of the other components, which all checked out!!!!

    So, on to 300k

They couldn’t use a tap and fix the threads on the oil pan?

The dealership could've yes... and that's what had me so damn pissed!!!! Instead of coming and saying, 'hey we have a situation, how would you like us to handle it', they just installed one of their 'temporary plugs'; which kinda works like a toggle bolt going into drywall, so it can't be re-used and leaves you having to replace the entire pan... then told me about it after the fact :mad::mad:

We tried to loosen it w/the intention of prying it out and just re-tap the pan, but no dice...

Sigh…. This morning hopped in the formerly trusty 2007 5.7L to head to the airport to catch a flight. Shortly after starting the truck got flashing 4HI, 4LO, and VSC. Truck in limp mode.

I guess after 16 years of service it’s time to start costing me $$$ in repairs.

    Some.
Put the truck up on stands and washed about 3 gallons worth of dirt off of my frame. Got most of it, but will go back under it next week and wash/scrub everything to get it nice and clean before installing the Eibach Pro-Truck stage 2R.

Changed my cabin air filter. Wasn't too bad for being untouched for 2 yrs (and barely driven due to working from home). Some leaves and dust. Luckily all 4 of my Toyota's use the same filter size. Change them all at the same time.

Didn’t have time my man, limped it back home put everyone in the Chevrolet SS and caught our flight. Won’t be back until next week to screw with it.

I’ll try to update once I find out more.

Changed the oil this morning, got a wash, and drove 85 miles to Dodgers stadium... only to watch them lose to the Yanks, and then drive back 85 miles. But at least the drive was awesome!

My tailgate handle started to crash and burn.
I usually buy OEM parts, but since I don't know how much longer I will keep my truck, I bought a cheaper version on Amazon, like $30.
It was a 17 minute repair, thanks to YouTube videos, and it works and fits perfectly, for now.
I feel like I have a new truck.

    Absolutely sweet FA, again.
Threw some tranny codes shortly after getting it back after the tranny rebuild and it's now been sat for three weeks up at the garage waiting for them to take a gander, bout time they stuck their noses under the hood and found out what the issue is - I'm going to be somewhat pissy if it was just low fluid.

Thanks, it is lingering in the back of my mind but I’m not letting it ruin my vacation… that’s my mother-in-law and sister-in-law’s job. LOL.

Definitely the best approach... Murphy will always be there to mess up any planned fun events. Enjoy the vacation and the truck issue can be dealt w/when you get back. Hopefully, your truck just got a little confused on who it was dealing with and fired off at you w/o thinking ;)

I thought about it, but ultimately I decided not to mess with the emissions system since Texas has requirements just as strict as California for yearly inspections.

There was another 5.7L Tundra in the shop I went to where the owner was literally having the kit removed and a factory secondary AIP put in, and the manager said he's had quite a few of those. Probably worth mentioning this was a shop that the Tundra community here in Houston unanimously recommends and trusts, and the owner, manager and techs are all Toyota guys. Some shops I'd think, "Yeah...he's probably just saying that" but this one has proven to be honest.

Washed the inside of the canopy and bed to get 2 years worth of dust and dirt out then sprayed the Line-X with Armor All. Currently, there is a fan sitting in there drying the carpet out.

I saw a post on Reddit today that Texas is doing away with vehicle inspections!
