Hey Tundra Nation, My check engine light just came on and the code said I have a blockage in my Secondary air pump. My question is this. The part will take a few days to get to me, is it alright to drive the truck or should I let it sit? I know it is part of the emissions but I don't want to create any harm to the engine. Thanks

This thread may be relevant. A real expert will come along soon and tell you. My gut is emissions stuff is all practically superfluous (*legally* may be another matter) so it should be fine to drive.

Totally fine to drive it in the meantime. The system only runs for the first couple minutes.

But which code is it? Is it a stuck valve, or SAIP fail? Important distinction, I'm pretty sure the valves and pump are separate, but maybe I'm wrong.

    Hey Tundra Man 05,
Are you aware of the bypass kit from Hewitt Tech? My 06 has same code and instead of doing the work to replace the Secondary Air Pump, I'm considering this option. Less expense as well.

I just went through the same thing, same code. I still used my truck as my daily driver for a few days until I could get it to the shop without issue. As for driving it long term with that code, I do not know.

There are a few kits. I recommend starting with this sticky thread, which @JasonC. already linked above: https://www.tundras.com/threads/secondary-air-system-sais-replacement-info-and-instructions.90175/

That said, @Tundra Man 05 your code suggests a valve is stuck, and that doesn't mean SAI pump failure. Read that thread to understand what component is failing, I haven't had to deal with mine yet but it seems to me you may just need to fix a single valve.

For both of you, you can also just make your own bypass kit instead of buying: https://www.tundras.com/threads/whining-noise-on-start-up-sais-bypass-kit.63382/#post-1656158

Note that Hewitt makes two generations of kits. Using a bypass kit may not actually help in @Tundra Man 05's case, I'm not sure. I've seen a few complaints on here of folks continuing to get stuck valve codes after installing the Hewitt kit, although I don't remember which generation they installed.
