Should I expect original parts upon purchase?

Hello everyone, I look forward to learning a lot here and with that, I do have my first question, even before picking up my new truck...

I purchased a 2023 Platinum and it comes with several accessories including the rear bumber step, (manual, not auto), swing out storage boxes, TRD alloy wheels with center caps, trd skid plate, dash cam and tow mirors.

The dealer indicated to me that upon delivery, I will also receive the original wheels but not the original mirrors. or center caps.

Does this sound right to you guys? The way I see it is that I paid for the truck with all of its original parts AND I paid additionally for the upgrades. I can't seem to find an answer anywhere on Google.

I appreciate all your advice here, much appreciated!

So you upgraded the wheels to TRD and they are also giving you back the original platinum wheels?

    Welcome
If tow mirrors are port installed is likely, you will not receive original mirrors.
You should get platinum center caps back as they are different than TRD caps if they promised wheels back.

It depends on if these were PIO (port installed options) or you ordered the parts after the fact. If you ordered those parts seperately and are just having the dealer install them when your truck arrives, then you can request the original parts back. If they were PIO, then you will not receive "original" parts back.

Thanks everyone! To answer everyone's questions thus far:
    • I did not request any of these upgrades, they were all already installed when I bought the vehicle. I do not know when or where they were installed.
    • The wheels that are installed are listed as TRD 20" Alloy Wheel - Flat Black" and the additional TRD center caps were a separate charge
    • I will certainly ensure I get the Platinum center caps with the original wheels.
Thanks again, everyone. I'm learning a lot already.

Where are you located? I might be interested in the Platinum wheels if you are going to part with them

    Hey Hella,
I'm in the southern Lake Simcoe area but commute to Markham.

If you give me your VIN number, I can look and see what was PIO or not.

    Whoa, thanks so much!

So, if I'm understanding, if it's NOT on this list, I should be requesting the "original parts" since the mirrors would have been installed by the dealer after the fact?

More than likely. What region are you
I'm guessing your from either Southeast US or Canada? Your VIN number is not pulling everything that I usually can so I can't see if some of the other options are on your original build. I'd be highly surprised that a dealership would swap mirrors like that before someone bought it. It's a super expensive swap.

Correct, I'm in Canada. I'll speak at length about it when I pick up the truck next week. There are a lot of items in the PIO list that I did not see in/on the vehicle. Thanks so much again.

Ok to be fair, I'm not sure my system would be accurate or not on those PIO's. Just check everything against your window sticker. On the right side of it, it'll list out all of the PIO's as accessories.

Alas, there never was a window sticker on this vehicle. I'll ask for it.

If you paid an upgrade fee (difference from stock to upgrade), you will not be entitled to the OEM stock parts back. Similar to upgrading your drink at Mc

If you paid full price for the new wheels, mirrors etc, you should demand the OEM stock parts back as you are fully entitled to them.

As for you not asking for the upgrades, you agreed to them when you signed the papers. If I had to guess, you'll be lucky to get any extra parts back.

Interesting. Those are dealer installed options so they should have the original rims but probably just used the same OEM tires. I thought I read somewhere that Platinums come standard with tow mirrors in Canada...is that true?

Based on that, I'd say you paid (through the nose) for rims and center caps. You should receive your stock ones back to sell and recoup some of the cost of the TRD ones

You didn't pay anything for tow mirrors, so won't get the stock ones back.

If the top portion says "Rust + Ceramic", make sure they aren't spraying the black rubberized undercoating, you do NOT want that.

Unfortunately, I think it was already sprayed, (the underside does look black and bumpy, but it does not feel like rubber, it's hard). Yes, I am receiving the stock wheels with the vehicle. Thanks for all your advice!

Just make sure you research whatever they put on. You will likely have to get it periodically inspected to qualify for any rust warranty. As soon as you miss a checkup, it may void it.

There are some concerns with any hard or rubberized undercoating, with water being trapped in and nowhere to go, except rust from the inside out.

I don't say this to scare you, but to give you a heads up on potential problems. Hope it works out.

If it's similar to CorrosionFree, WoolWax or FluidFilm, there won't be the same issues but those have to be reapplied yearly. Many, including myself, do them ourselves in the driveway with an air compressor, jug of fluid of choice and a wand/gun applicator.

Being in Ontario (I am MB), we get the fun of having winter road conditions for almost half the year. :canada:

Are you sure that you want tow mirrors? They are huge and create a big blind spot. Unless you tow frequently everyone is complaining on how big of blind spot they're creating...

I understand that I've overpaid for accessories, etc. I talked about removal of the $1000 worth of swing boxes, etc. to no avail. I bit the bullet, accepted as is and will pay my dues with financing. Thanks for your input.

It took a bit of getting used to but I dont think the blind spot was any worse than my 2012 Pillar. I did have to mess with the lower mirror a bit to get that angle I waned but I love them.....
