I found a few deals on face book market place and was debating pricing together a trd pro exhaust for my double cab tundra. The first link is from a dealer and it's the back half of the exhaust it says it's missing some hardware. The 2nd listing is a trd pro muffler that has been hacked off. It still has mounts on it. I'm thinking between the tail pipe kit and muffler I would be all in for about 270 bucks. My question is do you think using my old exhaust I could weld on exhaust flanges to either end of the muffler to make the entire kit work? Any suggestions?

They’re good prices for what they are. But it’s a shame to spend money to lose low end torque.

It's not a shame. That exhaust sounds really really good, and that price is great. No one REALLY spends a thousand plus bucks on exhaust to gain to lose or gain 1-5 torque. It's the note of their choice.

This is what you're trying to re-create. It looks like the tailpipe side of the mufflers (or the outlets) were cut almost flush - so some 2.5 inch pipe (with correct bend) and correct flanges would be needed to tie into the factory tailpipes. For reference, the pipe diameter into the TRD mufflers is 2.25 inch - smaller than the 2.5 inch exiting. The hardware is with the tailpipe kit - 2 gaskets; 6 bolts/nuts, heat shield and driver side bracket and hanger.

Yep...loss of low end sucks! I had that with Flowmasters on my previous truck with the 4.6. On my 2020 5.7, I run the 8" without resonator
along with the Banks PM....my neighbors know when I'm coming down the street. It's a @dirtydeeds system or stay on the porch lol.

Exactly. Spending money, on purpose, only to lose low end torque. Is a shame. And there is noticeable power to be lost or gained. Which is a huge deal with our trucks and their 6speed transmission and electronic engine control.

a properly built single exhaust will make your truck better, with the exact sound you want. A hacked together (or otherwise) dual exhaust loses low end torque and affects driveability.

I honestly like the look of the duel exhaust better. If I could have afforded to buy a double cab pro in the first place I would have. If there is a negligible lost in Performance I don't think I'll notice it without a dyno. Hard to believe Toyota would use this exhaust from the factory and loose performance. I'm sure you sell a good product I have read many positive reviews.

Got to decide if it's worth the extra work. I was quoted 1100 for the entire kit from the same guy selling tail pipes. He priced me out a new muffler kit.

My post has nothing to do with a product or anything that I sell. I sell a dual exhaust which competes with what you’re proposing, and it’s way better (just to put it into perspective)

my posts and advice thus far in your thread has been solely to help you with your endeavor. Zero bias towards anything that I make, especially since I can literally make what you’re proposing.

The low end torque loss isn’t negligible, it’s 2/10th of a second in the 1/8 mile. And the gear hunting also isn’t negligible. And trusting that a corporation actually has your best interest at heart, versus selling a badass looking dual exhaust which makes tons of money…. Well…

@Bradyu123 - why not get the muffler and have a local muffler shop fab up a system for you? I don't know what prices are around you, but my local shop has always be very reasonable. Locally owned Vet's that know what they are doing. One of the guys also drives a tundra.. so that' s plus. Anyways, I asked them to price out a full exhaust for me a while back: full dual with mufflers and headers included - $1200. They've done work on most of my vehicles and I've never had an issue. I once had an old explorer that I brought a muffler to have them splice it in and install a new tailpipe. Little did I know how much of PITA the tailpipe is on the one vehicles to avoid emissions equipment, air lines for the rear shocks, rear axle brackets, spare tire, etc but it was like a piece of art when they were finished. And they didn't charge me a penny more.

Anyways, don't let anyone else shame you in to choosing your own exhaust, vendor or not, "better" or not. I don't like obnoxious sounding exhausts, but I do like a nice note, so I choose what I think sounds good and meets my price point. That's what's better for me. That means I take it to the local shop and say "here's what I would like, what do you recommend". And they nailed it.

That price sounds in the "ballpark" - brand new from dealership for mufflers and tailpipes. Sometimes OEM toyota parts run sales that may save you a couple hundred - if you're not in a hurry. I was able to pickup a nice used TRD muffler system (back in the day) for $300 and got the tailpipes new on sale for just under $400 - again took some patience and timing.

If you have access to a good exhaust shop, you can price out if/how much to do the fab work to see if it's worth it compared to buying something more complete.

@dirtydeeds needs to make better exhaust sound videos. The only reason why I didn’t go with them was the videos they had of what the exhaust sounded like wasn’t that great. I’m just being honest.

I finally went with flowmaster dual then swapped out the flowFX muffler with a 22” Magnaflow to get rid of terrible drone, now it sounds great with that X-pipe.

I created a thread about cat-back systems for 3rd gens with videos of what they sound like, including dirty deeds’ videos.

Agreed going to call a local exhaust shop tomorrow and tell them what I want to do.
